Speak Out

Speak Out ... Chemical destruction

06-24-2008

Re "Avoid the retreatist mindset" (Speaker's Stand, June 18):

Letter writer Bob Reaves is all for making Anniston Army Depot the nation's toxic waste dump. People I know will not move into this area now because of the incinerator.

Others are living here in a mild fear with their gas mask and air cleaners at the ready just praying nothing bad happens.

I say get the military's chemical weapons in our area burned and be gone. Remember, Three Mile Island ran well for a while.

A company's bargain

I live in a mobile home on my son's beautiful property. Several years ago, Alabama Power Co. coerced us to allow it to cut down three large poplar trees that shaded my front yard. Of course, it agreed to remove the remains, but those remains are still cluttering our front yard. We are still waiting for it to keep its part of the agreement.
