Speak Out ... Monk's departure means city will have to waste more money

Re "One shameful episode: The blame is widespread" (Editorial, May 23):

The city of Anniston won't work with a Hollywood producer for movies to be made at McClellan for a reported $90 million income to our city, the Joint Powers Authority still hasn't hired its CEO position, and now the city is losing George Monk, one of the most capable, dedicated, honest and caring city managers it has ever had.

I guess now those in charge will waste more city finances to hire someone to search for another city manager when the best has been there all the time.

As The Star's editorial stated, this is a dysfunctional city government!

George Monk, I wish you the very best.

Don't get this logic

Re "Consequences of lies" (Speak Out, May 11):

Could someone please provide the evidence that President George W. Bush and/or Vice President Dick Cheney ever lied about the situation in Iraq before the invasion?

Is there some irrefutable evidence out there that the Bush administration held any evidence other than the same evidence provided by the U.N. and every nation in the world?

These socialist-leaning, Democrat-voting moonbats seem to think that an administration could:

Steal an election, when all that had to happen for a Democratic victory was for Al Gore to win his very own home state; and pull off, or allow to happen, the largest terrorist attack ever in the history of this nation.

I just don't get the logic of the Democrat myrmidons.

Letter writer P.J. Miller gave us the definition of a lie. But he failed to tell us that in order for something to be considered a lie, it would have to be known to be untrue before the statement was made. That has yet to proven in this case.

And for the record, yes, when President Clinton lied, people died.

Forsaking God

Jesus said if you believe in your heart that He is the Son of God and was risen from the dead that you can be saved.

I think the problem with this world today is people have forgotten about this saying and have gone on to their own little ways. They've let lust, money, fancy homes, adultery and these evil things come into their lives and are leaving God out.

People, you have to have Jesus in your life, otherwise we're all doomed. That's the reason for things being the way they are now. It started when they took prayer out of schools and the Ten Commandments out of courtrooms. People quit having church prayer meetings. For us to bring this nation together, we've got to pray to the Lord God Almighty to have mercy on us all. For the Lord says if you love Him, you'll obey Him.
