I read the “Speak Out” column each day and am amazed at what some people think. I don’t think they get what is going on in this state. If you don’t want the lottery, don’t get it. Enough already, because people are going to play somewhere, and if they’d rather help some other state instead, so be it.
We each have our own way of serving God. It looks to me as if the people are serving Roy Moore, not God, because you can serve God without a display. The display should be in your heart.
Let it go, and put your energy into how to take care of our children and schools, and give our children a decent education, please.
This state is about religion, politics and football. The three don’t mix. Gov. Riley is mad because he lost his tax package vote. Governor, this shouldn’t be a personal crusade, but about the state and its people who are really in need of help.
Just look around the cities here. Most are infested with drugs and dilapidated houses. No one or any companies really want to locate here — it’s just that tax breaks are good. The state can find millions of dollars for that.
Gov. Riley, get over the defeat and work to find a way to help your state. The people of the state have told you what they don’t want, so find out what they do want.

The no vote
The governor told us what would happen if the tax reform plan was voted down. Now all the people that voted NO don’t like what is a logical consequence. Too bad. We have continued our reputation for shooting ourselves in the foot. Oh yes ... I voted yes. So I’m holding the people that voted no responsible for the consequences.John Tidball

Laws of God
It amazes me how the people of Alabama and the United States will support our troops in the fight for America and our flag but will stand still and let a Supreme Court justice rule on our state’s rights — a Supreme Court justice appointed by the president and not voted upon. Our nation was set up on the principle of “In God We Trust,” which appears on our dollar bill along with George Washington’s picture. In Williamsburg, Va., I sat on a seat in an Episcopalian church where George Washington sat. He came from England to Virginia and must have had a King James Bible and been a Christian to set our government up as he did.
We need more laws of God that we trust in all our courtrooms so there would be fewer crooked lawyers to protest the laws God gave to such lawless people as we have in Alabama and America.
