Your editorial,“Republican reason on Iraq,” reads like a dumbed down version of what I read in The New York Times recently. You, like The Times, grossly misrepresented what former Secretary of State Henry Kissinger had written in The Washington Post. Dr. Kissinger, to me and any other educated person who is not a propagandist for The New York Times or has aspiration to be one, totally supports the need to eliminate Saddam Hussein. The only suggestion he makes is that the government needs to make as convincing a case as possible for a preemptive strike to the rest of the world before we do it. I totally agree with Dr. Kissinger’s argument and just wish you could get your facts right.
The New York Times, like you, may not want to go to war over Iraq, but don’t lie and make it sound like good Republicans agree with you. If you don’t believe my accusation of lying, read The Washington Post, or The New York Times for that matter (which, by the way, are both on line and free), and see what Dr. Kissinger really said.
Please, tell Mr. Ayers that he is not now, and never will be, in the same league with The New York Times, although he shares all their biases, his is still a small town hick newspaper.

ADEM funding
Great editorial on “Funding and ADEM.” We need to see reform of ADEM as well as more funding! I teach Earth and Environmental Science at the junior high level. I am also serving as the vice-chair for the Alabama Sierra Club. Thanks so much for The Anniston Star’s continuing effort to help clean up our state.I would like to urge everyone to attend the ADEM hearing in Anniston on Tuesday, Sept. 3, as well as the National Event for Environmental Justice and Safe Disposal of Chemical Weapons on Sunday, Sept. 8, 3 p.m. For more information, contact Families Concerned About Nerve Gas Incineration at (256) 435-4743.

Pizza, anyone?
I’ve been teaching since 1968. At one of our meetings recently, one of my younger colleagues asked the following question: “What’s the difference between a teacher and a large pizza?” Answer: “The pizza can feed a family of four.”Maybe Bob Riley just needs a more encompassing sense of humor.

Dear governor
My daughter, like your daughter, needs money for her school. But, unlike your daughter, my daughter doesn’t have the governor as a father. A million or so would help her school system quite nicely. I and many other parents would appreciate it if you could give that kind of money!
My daughter has to go to school with only half the books she needs for classes!
I went to school in Kentucky. We never seemed to have any problems with getting school books.
And there’s a major sewage problem with the elementary school in Weaver. A little bit of help with this problem would also be greatly appreciated.
I don’t like Bob Riley, I’ll admit that. He didn’t help us keep Fort McClellan. But I’ll be damned if I’ll vote for you!
