Speak Out ... On subscriptions and online viewing

This is in response to a reader’s opinion on charging for on-line subscriptions.

I am not in total agreement with you about charging for on-line subscriptions. I must say that The Anniston Star can at least offer a premium online service. If you do get the daily “homegrown” Anniston Star, you will notice it’s incomparable to the online version of The Anniston Star.

Just a glitz in the store can’t offer you the comfort of home and not to mention unused paper loitering around. If you’ll purchase a hard copy, you will notice that you don’t get all the advertising, classifieds, or other premium prints you get from a hard copy. I do not agree with them charging for the current online service, but if they decide to offer a premium online service that will be inclusive of each and every detail that is available in the hard copy, then I for one will purchase the premium services.

I don’t think they should charge for what they offer now! If they can give me all they offer in a hard copy, then I think a premium surcharge is worth it. Why not? You pay 50 cents per hard copy for all of its content, and if they give you all their content online it wouldn’t really make good business sense, now would it?

I am quite sure it would leave their sales with a deep gash. So, friend, the revenue must still be generated and if a premium service is offered they wouldn’t lose. The daily online news service they currently publish is not worth a charge.

Anniston Star, if you do consider this charge, consider free basic access with an option for a paid premium service with much more detail. That way you can keep the common “homegrown” internet folk happy and also please your growing and expanding worldwide folk happy too!

Online again

Why do we have to pay for the Web site? It’s not fair! I am really upset for not being able to read the news on-line now. It was very convenient.

People who work all day don’t have time to sit around reading the newspaper. I will not bother to buy one still. It is such a waste of time and money. I work and when I get home I sit down at my computer to relax and the first thing I usually do before work is browse the articles and obits that interest me. I think it is just to get people to buy more paper.

Well, not me and I am sure there are more out there that agree. I was not getting it free either, I pay for AOL each month. I say bring it back or I will no longer read The Anniston Star.

Contacting an old friend

I wish to thank the wonderful people of the Anniston area in regards to my search for an old navy friend. Many e-mailed me and some even took time to phone, of which I am grateful.

Yes, I did contact Bill Reid and plan to talk with him on the phone about a reunion to chat about our lives. This means a lot to me as it has been 45 years since we last had our long talks.

Again, to the people of the Anniston area, I salute you for your care and concern of others.
