ROANOKE — Funeral services for Roger Donald Brown, 59, will be at today at 3:00 p.m. from Quattlebaum Funeral Chapel with The Rev. Bobby Burroughs and The Rev. Randall Moore officiating. Burial will follow at Randolph Memory Gardens. Mr. Brown died Saturday, August 30, 2008.
Survivors include his wife, Joan Jackson Brown of Roanoke; one daughter, Gena Teague (husband, Cliff) of Edwardsville; one son, Chase Brown (wife, Keila) of Roanoke; one sister, Evelyn Powell of Tallapoosa, Ga.; two brothers, Dwight Brown and Ronald Brown, both of Fruithurst; and four grandchildren. A former Cleburne County resident, Mr. Brown was born January 8, 1949, son of Eugene and Grace Biggers Brown. He was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War and had been employed with Anniston Army Depot. Quattlebaum Funeral Home, Roanoke, is in charge of arrangements.
CENTRE — Funeral services for Sandra Martin "Sandie" Dodd, 47, will be at Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Perry Funeral Home Chapel. Ms. Dodd died Saturday at Cherokee Med. Center.
MONTGOMERY — Annie Varina Watson Hall, 87, born in Rabbittown, Ala., on June 30, 1921, died in Montgomery, Ala. on August 29, 2008. She was the youngest of five children born to the late Mr. and Mrs. H.F. Watson in Calhoun County, Ala., and was the wife of the late COL. USAR (Ret.) Curtis C. Hall, whom she married when they were both teenagers. Mrs. Hall was a long-time member of Ridgecrest Baptist Church where she taught first graders in Sunday School for 19 years. In later years, she was devoted to Young-At-Heart. She was also active in ABWA for many years. She is survived by two daughters, Patricia Bailey of Nashville, Tenn., and Jean Roberts and husband, Donald of Panama City, Fla.; two sons, Ray Hall and wife, Sandy of Coosada, Ala., and Randy Hall and wife, Anita of Hoover, Ala.; eight grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a brother-in-law, Wallace Hall and wife Madrid of Weaver, Ala.; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by one grandson, Nathan Hall.
Funeral services for Mrs. Hall will be at on Monday, September 1, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at Leak-Memory Chapel with The Rev. Michael Cassity officiating. Internment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery. The family will greet friends and relatives at Leak-Memory Chapel one hour prior to the service. Asked to serve as pallbearers are Mrs. Hall's grandsons, Scott Roberts, Tony Roberts, Drew Hall, Joe Cooper and Pat Dismukes; and great-grandsons, Wil Roberts and Alex Cooper. Honorary pallbearers are members of Young-At-Heart of Ridgecrest Baptist Church. WOODLAND — Funeral services for Betty Wilson Holmes, 77, will be at Wednesday, 10 a.m. at First Baptist Church, Wedowee. Visitation is 5-8 p.m., Tuesday at Benefield Funeral.
ANNISTON — Funeral services for Susan Virginia (Gannon) Howell, 50, will be at Tuesday, September 2, 2008 at 3 p.m. at Chapel Hill Chapel with the Rev. Harold Payne officiating. Burial to follow at Plum Springs Baptist Cemetery, Eastaboga. The family will receive friends Monday from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Mrs. Howell passed away Sunday, August 31, 2008 at her residence. Mrs. Howell is survived by her husband, Benny Howell; Sons, Chris Howell and Matt (Cheryl) Howell of Anniston; mother, Gladys McDonald of Talladega; sisters, Mary Lou Fuller of Talladega, Lessie Gannon of Arizona, and Kathey Bowen of Calhoun, Ga.; brothers, Buddy Langley of Pell City and Jimmy Langley of Cocoa, Fla.; four grandchildren, Andrew Howell, Anna Howell, Lexie Howell and Colby Gortney.
Pallbearers will be Derek Key, Jonathan Phillips, Calvin Phillips, John Phillips, Brian Gravett and Dale Langley. Mrs. Howell was preceded in death by her fathers, William (Bill) Thomas Gannon and Guy W. Howell. A native of Talladega, Mrs. Howell was a resident of Calhoun County most of her live. ANNISTON — Funeral services for Charles R. Matheny, 82, will be at Tuesday, September 2, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at K.L. Brown Memory Chapel with The Rev. Hal Noble and The Rev. Woodfin Grove officiating. The family will receive friends 2 hours prior to the service at the funeral home. Mr. Matheny died August 30, 2008 at NHC. Mr. Matheny was in the US Army and served in the 82nd Airborne Division. He was a member of Fraternal Order of Police in Philadelphia, Pa., and retired from the Philadelphia Police Department. He was lovingly known by his 5 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren as Pop-Pop. He was preceded in death by a son Charles R. Matheny, Jr. Mr. Matheny is survived by his daughter, Cheryl Duchock of Pinson, Ala.; and Ex-wife Virginia Matheny of Anniston. ANNISTON — Funeral services for Mr. Randall "Randy" Terry, 46, will be 11 a.m., Tuesday, September 2, 2008, at Gray Brown-Service Mortuary with Dr. Randy Hagan officiating. Burial will follow at Forestlawn Gardens. The family will receive friends this evening from 6-8 at the funeral home. Mr. Terry died Saturday in Jacksonville.
Survivors include his wife of 18 years, Karen Terry; a daughter, Emily Terry; his parents, Roscoe and Joyce Terry of Anniston; a brother, Mike Terry of Saraland; and a nephew, Scott Terry. Mr. Terry is preceded in death by his grandparents, Howard and Maudie Sparks and James and Florence Terry.
Pallbearers will be family and friends. Mr. Terry was a native and life long resident of Anniston and employed at JSU Department of Information Technology. He was a graduate of Wellborn High School and JSU and a member of West Park Heights Baptist Church. ANNISTON — Private memorial services for Mrs. Dorothy L. Tyler, 70, were held Sunday at Miller Funeral Home & Crematory. Mrs. Tyler died Sunday, August 31 at NEARMC. Mrs. Tyler is survived by her husband of 45 years, Donald Tyler of Iron City; two brothers, Earl Jenkins and wife Gloria of White Plains and Robert Jenkins and wife Marie of Michigan; two special Aunts, Dorothy Renfroe and Lorene Renfroe and many cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, Naomi and Bill Jenkins and her sister Audrey Farmer. Mrs. Tyler was a native of Alabama, grew up in Michigan and retired to Anniston. Dorothy enjoyed golfing at Pine Hill Country Club, reading, jigsaw puzzles and caring for her dogs. She also enjoyed time with her family and cooking. She will best be remembered for her beautiful smile and her love of Donald and family.
