TALLADEGA — Dr. Harold Ernest Clark Sr., 82, died Wednesday, August 6, 2008 at his residence.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Bobbye Wood Clark, of Talladega; daughter, Beth Patterson and husband, Mike, of Talladega; son, Hal Clark and wife, Amy of Louisville, Ky.; four grandchildren, Lucy Moore and husband, Frank, Joy Williams and husband, Jimbo, Logan Clark and Brady Clark; brother, Donald Clark and wife, Peggy, of Munford; brother, Jack Clark and wife, Omega, of Mobile; sister, Eva Jane Methvin and husband, Gordon, of Clearwater, Fla.; two sisters-in-law, Dianne Moss and Frances Whedbee; nine nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond Ernest and Ora Marjorie Clark; one brother, Winfred Clark; one sister, Betty Ann Layton.
Funeral services for Mr. Clark will be at 4 p.m. Saturday, August 9, 2008 at Usrey Funeral Home Chapel with Jim and Jeff Clark officiating. Burial will follow at Pine Hill Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 5-8 tonight at the funeral home.
OXFORD — Funeral services for Mrs. Frances Maddox Crosson, 79, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Oak Hill Baptist Church with The Rev. Ronnie Adams officiating. The family will receive friends from 5-8 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be at Forestlawn Gardens. The body will lie in state 1 hour prior to service at the church. Mrs. Crosson went to be with her Lord on Wednesday. Mrs. Crosson is survived by her daughter, Kay Crider and husband, Jimmy, of Oxford and son, Troy Crosson and wife, Rhonda, of Ohatchee; three brothers, James Maddox, Wallace Maddox, and Alfred Maddox; and six sisters, Macie Feazell, Grace Martin, Jeanette Hurst, Joyce Story, Eleanor Short and Susie Padget; six grandchildren, Scott Crosson and wife Christy, Cindy Crosson, Aaron Crosson and wife, Misty, Matt Rouse and wife, Christy, Kristy Hughes and husband Lloyd, and Brittany Crider; and five great- grandchildren, Damien Crosson, Morgan Rouse, Eric Rouse, Meghan Patterson and Riley Patterson. Mrs. Crosson was a native and lifelong resident of Calhoun County. She was a lifelong member of Oak Hill Baptist Church and retired from Southern Tool after 14 years of service. Mrs. Crosson was preceded in death by her husband, Willie S. Crosson and her parents, Benjamin Austin and Katie Frances Maddox.

Visitation will be from 1-2 p.m. Saturday, August 9, 2008, at the church. Mrs. Jones passed away Wednesday August 6, 2008 in Athens. ANNISTON — Funeral services for Mrs. Inez Kimble, 93, will be Saturday, August 9, 2008 at 11 a.m. at the Ervin Funeral Chapel of Chimes with the Rev. Billy Springer officiating and Ervin Funeral Chapel in charge. Burial will be in the Eden Hills Cemetery. Public visitation will commence today from 12-8 at the funeral home. The remains will be available for public viewing in the chapel from 8 a.m. until the time of service. Mrs. Kimble passed away Monday, August 4, 2008 at Stringfellow Memorial Hospital in Anniston. She was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters; one brother; one daughter, Lottie Kimble-Lowery; three grandchildren, Petty Office First Class Fred Maffett, Army Major Dwayne Williams and Reba Joyce Kimble. She leaves to cherish in her memory, four daughters, Hazel Kimble, Gloria Kimble, Pearl K. (Horace) Wiliams and Dorothy (Curtis) Bradford; one sister, Sudie Heard; one brother, Hugo (Ethel) Sims; one sister-in-law, Vera Kimble-Coleman; ten grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; 17 great-great-grandchildren; and may other relatives and friends.

The remains will be at the church one hour prior to the services. Mr. Lanier passed away Saturday, August 2, 2008 at Gadsden Regional Medical Center in Gadsden, Ala. He retired from the Anniston Army Depot in 1991 as a Quality Control Inspector after eighteen years of dedicated service. He was well known in the community as a person who was always there to help when needed. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and two sisters. He leaves to cherish his memories, a loving and devoted wife, Mrs. Flossie Lanier; two daughters, Mrs. Carolyn (Dennis) Gibson, of Anniston and Mrs. Linda (James) Wright, of Atlanta, Ga.; a son, Major (Promotable) Tracy (DeShelia) Lanier, of Clarksville, Tenn.; a special friend, Mr. Otis Burton, of Anniston; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; tow brothers; two sisters; four sisters-in-law; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. HEFLIN — Darrell "GRAMPS" McClellan, 89, passed away at his home on August 7, 2008. His family will receive friends anytime today at their home, 246 Old Edwardsville Rd, Heflin, Ala. He is survived by his daughter-in-law, Antoinette McClellan; grandchildren, Rhonda McClellan, Darrell W. McClellan, Jeanette McClellan; three great grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren, special friends, Chris and Kathleen Coxon and several nieces and nephews. "GRAMPS" was a native and long time resident of California. He had been living in Heflin for the past five years. He was a retired shoe cobbler. BIRMINGHAM — Mr. Clay Slate, age 92, died July 30, 2008 in Birmingham, Alabama. Mr. Slate was born in Scottsville, Kentucky July 7, 1916. He moved with his family at a young age to Bowling Green, Kentucky, where he attended public schools. He graduated from Western Kentucky State University, and later from Louisville School of Law in Kentucky. After a year of working for the Federal government in Lima, Peru during World War II, he began a long career with the Federal Bureau of Investigation, serving for many years as the Senior Resident Agent of the Calhoun-Cleburne County District office. He retired from the FBI in 1966, and worked for fourteen years as Vice President and Trust Officer for the Commercial National Bank. Mr. Slate was an active member of the First United Methodist Church and the Anniston Rotary Club. He served for many years on the board of the Salvation Army, and was Trustee Emeritus of the International House Board of Trustees at Jacksonville State University. In 2007, the Board of Trustees created "The Clay and Betty Slate International Service and Friendship Award" which is presented annually to an outstanding supporter of the International House. Mr. Slate was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Davis Slate; his parents, Joseph and Pernie Slate; his brother, Herman Slate, and his sister, Kathryne Slate McDorman. He is survived by children, Jill Slate Mange of Selma, Clay Slate Jr., of Morelia, Mexico, and Miriam Slate Berlinger, of Honolulu, Hawaii; also grandchildren, Gerald Burgess Mange Jr., George Edward Mange, Davis Slate Mange, Elizabeth Katherine Mange, and Joshua Clay Slate; also sister, Jonell Slate Crouch. A memorial service will be at 12 p.m. on Saturday, August 9, 2008, at the First United Methodist Church of Anniston. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to First United Methodist Church of Anniston, The Salvation Army, or The American Cancer Society.
ANNISTON — Pauline "Polly" Tipton, 79, completed her earthly journey and went to be with the Lord on August 6, 2008, following a lengthy period of declining health. At the time of her passing her children and grandchildren were close by her side. Polly Tipton was born in Pell City, Ala. on December 2, 1928. She was an honor student of Pell City High School in Pell City, Ala. She graduated as Salutatorian of the Class of 1947. Polly was then married on May 24, 1947 to Charles Wesley Tipton, who died on April 14, 2006. Polly began her career at General Electric. She then worked for a number of years in retail sales in the historic downtown district of Anniston. Polly also worked for the Anniston Army Depot, where she retired. A longtime member of Hill Crest Baptist Church, Polly served as a Women's Sunday School teacher until her health pthe Revented her volunteer work. She was also a member of the Women's Missionary Union and was active with the Women's Ministries. She is survived by her brother, Amos Patterson and his wife, Barbara, of Pell City. She is also survived by her loving children, Dianne Tipton Carver and her husband, Al, of Birmingham, C. Dwight Tipton, of Huntsville, and Alan D. Tipton and his wife, Denise, of Oxford; grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. The family will hold visitation from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. this evening, August 8, 2008, at Gray Brown Funeral Home, 1329 Wilmer Avenue, Anniston. A memorial service to celebrate her life will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, August 9, 2008, at the Gray Brown Funeral Home Chapel.
Pallbearers will be friends and neighbors. Honorary pallbearers will be the Fidelis Women's Sunday School Class of Hill Crest Baptist Church. Polly Tipton was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She touched many people with her warm and gracious spirit. She will truly be missed by those who knew her best, but we are all better people for having known her.
