BROWN

GLENCOE — Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, August 8, 2008, at Crestwood Chapel for David Ray "Bird Dog" Brown, 70, who died August 6, 2008. the Rev. Billy Kitchens, The Rev. Jason Hill and The Rev. David Denson will officiate. Burial will follow at Crestwood Cemetery. Crestwood Funeral Home is in charge. The family will receive friends from 6-8 tonight at Crestwood Funeral Home. Mr. Brown was retired from General Electric of Rome, Ga. after 29 years of service. He was a member of North Highland Baptist Church. He was an avid Alabama Football, Atlanta Braves Baseball and Nascar Fan. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Geneva Brown; a brother, James Brown. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Mary Brown; daughters, Scynea (Eric) Batista, Terri (Dennis) Kirkland, Beth (Glenn Starr) Brown; sister, Sylvia (Steve) Walker; brothers, Ralph (Patsy) Brown, and Billy (Pam) Brown; grandchildren, Jayme and Kari Kirkland, Paige (Drew) Harris, Taylor and Matthew Batista, and Sommer (Benji) Gray; great-grandchildren, Clayton and Conner Harris, Slade Batista, Alyssa Rubrigi; and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Zac Welch, Jacob Welch, Brandon Brown, Shane Brown, Drew Harris, Roger Sims and Chris Sims. Honorary pallbearers will be Dood Sims, Bob Robershaw, Roy Wagnon, James Stephens, Jerry Stephens, Richard Stephens, Chris Hare and Dewayne Hare. PIEDMONT — Funeral services for Debra Lynn Broxton, 45, will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Thompson Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at the funeral home two hours prior to services.

POSS

TALLADEGA — Mrs. Martha Louise Poss, 75, died Tuesday, August 5, 2008 at Autumn Trace, Talladega. Martha Louise Cobb Poss was born to Fred and Lillie Cobb on October 27, 1932 near White Plains, Alabama. She grew up on the family farm and attended Pleasent Ridge Baptist Church, where she learned to love God and all of his creation. She attended White Plains Elementary School and was a graduate of White Plains High School. After high school, she met and married James Daniel (Dan) Poss, of Ohatchee, where they chose to make their home. For several years she was a full time wife and mother to son, Danny and daughter, Lisa. As her children older and required less of her time she chose to continue her education. Martha graduated Gadsden State Community College, Jacksonville State University and earned a master's degree in special education from the University of Alabama. She served several years as a special education teacher at Saks Elementary School. Martha loved her job and students, many of whom she stayed in contact with into their adult lives. Martha lived most of her life near Ohatchee and was a member of Mt. View Baptist Church. She loved her family, gardening, and all her animals. Due to declining health, Martha had been a resident of Autumn Trace Assisted Living of Talladega for the last several months. Her family would like to thank Deanna and the staff there for all their kindness. You were really a blessing in our time of need. Our mother went to be with Jesus on the evening of August 5, 2008. She crossed over peacefully with her family by her side.

Survivors include son, Danny Poss and wife, Kathy, of Ohatchee; daughter, Lisa Poss Garrett and husband, Charles, of Eufala; two granddaughters, Dana and Angelia; five great-grandchildren, Skyla, Connor, Aspen Maddie and Pamela; four brothers, Donald, Lawrence Stanley and Elbert Cobb, of Choccolocco; sister, Mary Catherine (Kat) Ligon, of Lineville; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by husband, Dan Poss; parents, Fred and Lillie Cobb; and brother, Estan Cobb.

Funeral services for Mrs. Poss will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, August 9, 2008, at Usrey Chapel with the Rev. Tommy Reaves officiating. Burial will follow at Ragan Chapel. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Friday, August 8, 2008, at Usrey Funeral Home.

Pallbearers and Honorary pallbearers will be nieces and nephews. Flowers or donations may be made to: Ragan Chapel Cemetery Fund or American Alzhiemers Foundation.

RAINEY

PIEDMONT — Graveside services for Judy L. Rainey, 58, will be at 10 a.m. today, August 7, 2008, at Highland Cemetery in Piedmont with Thompson Funeral Home directing.
