BALL

OXFORD — Funeral services for Mrs. Bertha Green Ball, 88, of Rock Quarry, will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, August 6, 2008, at Rocky Mount Baptist Church in Oxford with Pastor Stevie Houston, Pastor Michael Truss, Pastor Clarence Henderson officiating. Burial will be in Jennifer Cemetery in Munford with Anniston Funeral services in charge. The body will be in the church one hour prior to service. Mrs. Ball died on July 30, 2008 at NHC Healthcare in Anniston.

Survivors include her husband, Hugh C. Ball, of Rock Quarry; one daughter, Ada Johnson (B.Otis), of Anniston; one granddaughter, Lisa Johnson, of Richton Park, Ill.; and two great-grandchildren, Davia and Anthony; a very special loving and caring sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Bessie and Cleve Thomas, of Oxford; brother-in-law, Lonnie Ball (Laverne), of Gary, Ind.; very special great nephews, "Teddy and Punkin"; a special niece, Mary Wallace banks and great-niece, Cedkerria Scott.

Pallbearers will be nephews. Mrs. Ball was a life long resident and a member of the Rocky Mount Baptist Church. Aunt Bert as she was affectionately known was preceded in death by eight brother and sisters, Myrtis Pope, Glady Russell, Lillie Mae Pearson, Frazier Green, Mosa Green, J.C. Green and Willis Green. WOODLAND — Funeral services for William Edward "Billy" Beall, 87, will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday from Bethel East Baptist Church. Visitation 5-9 tonight at Rainwater Funeral Home.

DOSS

JACKSONVILLE — Martha Winnie Doss, 101, died August 4, 2008 at Jacksonville Medical Center.

Funeral services for Mrs. Doss will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, August 6, 2008, at Curtis and Son North Chapel. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5-8 tonight at the funeral home. the Rev. David Mann and The Rev. Brandon Strickland will officiate.

Survivors include her son, Raymond Doss and wife, Sandy, of Anniston; daughters, Carrie Miller and husband, Blenard, of Alpine, Nellie Ruth Chappell, of Anniston, Gertrude Murphy and husband, Bill, of Sycamore.

Pallbearers will be great-grandsons. Mrs. Doss was preceded in death by her husband, George Doss; grandson, Danny Miller; and great-granddaughter, Laura Hardy. She was a member of Friendship Baptist Church of Childersburg and was a good samaritan that enjoyed helping others. She also enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. Interest included crocheting, piano and playing and listening to gospel music. A special thank you to Jacksonville Health and Rehab Center.

KIMBLE

ANNISTON — Funeral services for Inez Kimble, 93, will be announced by Ervin Funeral Chapel. Mrs. Kimble died Monday, August 4, 2008 at Stringfellow Memorial Hospital.

O'HARA

CARTERSVILLE, Ga. — Funeral service for Alvin F. O'Hara Sr., 64, formerly of Anniston, will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, August 6, 2008, at New Hope Baptist Church with Pastor Robert Fain officiating. Burial will be in the Sunset Cemetery with Goodson Funeral Home directing. Family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. this evening at the funeral.

Survivors include children Vincent F. O'Hara, Rosemarie (Tony) Montgomery, Constance O'Hara, Andrea Knowles; sisters, Shirley (Jessie) Gholston, Estella O'Hara; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren. www.goodsonfuneralhome.net

PRATER

PIEDMONT — Mr. Hershel Edward Prater, 90, died Monday, August 4, 2008, at Piedmont Healthcare Center. A native of Cherokee County, Alabama, Mr. Prater was born on February 25, 1918 the son of the late Herbert Hershel and Daisy Beatrice Tucker Prater. Mr. Prater was self employed having owned the Prater Taxi Company for many years and proudly served his country in World War II serving the United States Navy and also during the Korean Conflict serving in the United States Army. He was married on February 18, 1989 to the former Nellie Jo Young. He was preceded in death by a brother, Hugh Lynn Prater. Mr. Prater was a member of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include his wife Mrs. Nellie Prater; one son, Brian (Vicki) Prater; daughter, Brenda (Jack) Spears; step-daughters, Gail (Danny) Pointer and Ann (Jeff) Sexton; grandsons, Patrick (Crystal) Prater, Mark Prater and Andrew Prater; step-grandchildren, Shane Pointer, Alan Grissom, Ashley Malone; great-grandchildren, Priscilla McCurdy and Katlyn Prater.

Funeral services for Mr. Prater will be conducted on Wednesday, August 6, 2008, from the chapel of the Folsom Funeral Home with The Rev. Rodney McGinnis and The Rev. Roy Moore officiating. Interment will follow in the Highland Cemetery will full military rites. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.

WHITTINGTON

ANNISTON — Edith Rose Allison Whittington was born on November 29, 1917 in Brisbane Australia. Mrs Whittington died on Sunday, July 6, 2008 in Birmingham, Alabama. Prior to coming to the United States as a "war bride" in 1946, Rose graduated from Nursing School in Brisbane and was on staff as an RN at Brisbane. After raising her children, she became an employee of the Northeast Alabama Regional Medical Center in 1969 and retired in 1982. Mrs Whittington was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas Allison Scott and Edith Rose Scott; seven brothers and four sisters and her husband, Sydney Hoke Whittington. She is survived by her son, Garry Wayne Allison Whittington, and daughter, Linda Jean Allison Goodson; her sister Janet Allison Scott; brother, Sydney Allison Scott (Mary); four grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Graveside services were officiated by Pastor Bob St John of Anniston Bible Church at Mauk Cemetery, Mauk Georgia, Wednesday, July 9, 2008. Southern Heritage Funeral Home directing. Memorials may be made to Disabled American Veterans or the American Cancer Society.
