COUCH

WEAVER — Graveside services for Mrs. Nelle Elizabeth Gray Couch, 80, of Weaver, will be 2 p.m., Monday, July 21, 2008, at Forestlawn Gardens. The family will receive friends Monday from 12:30 - 1:30 at Gray Brown-Service Mortuary. Mrs. Couch passed away Thursday at her residence.

Survivors include her daughter, Ellen Couch Phillips and a grandson, Tyler Phillips, both of Weaver. Mrs. Couch is preceded in death by her husband, Norman Aaron "Buster" Couch.

Pallbearers will be Tyrone Young, Jim Jones, Kevin Jones, and Preston Sorrell. Mrs. Couch was a native of Cleburne County and a resident of Mobile and Calhoun County most of her life. She was a retired teacher and taught at Weaver and Cedar Springs Elementary School most of her career. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Weaver. ANNISTON — Graveside service for Kay Dempsey, 53, of Anniston, who passed away, July 18, 2008, will be 11 a.m. Monday, at Anniston Memorial Gardens. the Rev. Ben Rosser will officiate and Miller Funeral Home and Crematory will direct. The family will receive friends 6-8 tonight at the Funeral Home. Kay was a native of Florida and moved to Alabama at the age of twelve. She worked at Sweet Ore Manufacturing with more than 20 years of service. Mrs. Dempsey leaves behind her husband of 37 years, Rufus Dempsey; sons, Shane Dempsey and Josh Dempsey; granddaughter, Mikayla Dempsey; sister, Joanne Huff, of Port Saint Lucy, Fla.; mother-in-law, Margaret Dempsey; brothers and sisters-in-law, Johnny Dempsey (Donna), Phillip Dempsey (Malinda), Kathy Parris (Donald and Becky Bailey; and several nieces and nephews and great nieces and great nephews.

WEAVER — Funeral services for Phillip Grant Estes, 60, will be 1 p.m. Monday, at Anniston Memorial Funeral Home with the Rev. Mike Owens officiating. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends 5-7 this evening at the funeral home. Mr. Estes died Friday at UAB Medical Center.

Survivors include his wife, Janet Kilgore Estes; son, Tyler Grant Estes, both of Weaver; a sister and brother-in-law, Valinda Estes Waldrep and her husband, Ted Waldrep, of Saks; a niece, Valita Lynn and her husband, David Groom; a great-niece, Catherine Elizabeth Groom, of Leeds; a father-in-law, Jerry Kilgore,,e of Alexandria; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Judy Kilgore and Johnny Berry and Jeff and Vickie Kilgore; and nephews, Kyle and Brett Kilgore of Alexandria.

Pallbearers will be Jimmy Shaw, Larry Currie, Brian Cooper, Brent Cooper, Brett Kilgore, Kyle Kilgore, Don Yother and Aubrey Gilley. Mr. Estes attended Leatherwood Baptist Church. He earned a BS in mathematics, physics and accounting. He held an MBA in Management (Magna Cum Laude). He was a Certified Computer Professional and was Certified in Data Processing. He was President and CEO of the management consulting company, Business Solutions, Inc. He held a Doctor of Laws degree and was a practicing attorney. A published author, he also served as adjunct professor at Gadsden State Community College, and at the Universities of Alabama, Chadwick, and Jacksonville State. GANTT

BIRMINGHAM — Mrs. Elise McIntosh Gantt, retired college professor of accounting, passed away in the early evening of Wednesday, July 9, 2008, at Trinity Hospital in Birmingham. A graveside service was held Saturday, July 12, 2008, at 10:30 a.m. in Collins, with The Reverend Doctor Will Dowling, pastor of the Collins United Methodist Church, officiating.

Pallbearers were Greg Breland, W.O. Thomas Jr., W.O. Thomas III, Jack Gibson and Mrs. Gantt's nephews, Cannon McIntosh Cain, Hugh B. McIntosh and Jesse B. McIntosh, Joseph Jordan. Mrs. Gantt, the daughter of the late Hugh Barnes McIntosh and Mrs. Maurice T. McIntosh, was born in Hattiesburg in 1933. She graduated from Collins High School in 1955. In 1959, she received a degree in political science from the University of Alabama at Tuscaloosa. She resided in Birmingham, Anniston and Huntsville, during her adult years working and creating her family. Words like "energy and "positive spirit" characterized every aspect of her inspirationally active life. Her early years were spent at Collins Methodist Church and her adult years were spent at First United Methodist Church in Anniston, Ala. Her work as an assistant professor of accounting at Jacksonville State University in Jacksonville, was particularly meaningful for her and served as the culmination of her professional career. She enjoyed teaching the practical aspects of accounting that she applied in her private practice as a Certified Public Accountant. She is survived by her three children, Dr. Roddie Roy Gantt, of Huntsville, Mrs. Maurice Gantt Williams, of Birmingham, and Mr. James Stewart Gantt, of Atlanta, Ga.; grandchildren, Justin, Luke, Raegan and Anna Elise Gantt and Megan and Michael Williams; her sister, Dorothy Cato McIntosh Cain, of Asheville, N.C.; her brother, Mr. Hugh M. McIntosh, of San Antonio, Texas.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Funeral services for Mrs. Carolyn Yvonne Moore, 38, formerly of Goodwater, Ala., will be 12 noon Monday, July 21, 2008 at Pleasant Home Baptist Church in Goodwater, Ala. with the Rev. ANNISTON — Memorial service for Thomas Dewitt Myers, 91, will be Tuesday, July 22, 2008 at 3 p.m. at K.L. Brown Memory Chapel, Anniston, with the Rev. Bruce White officiating. Mr. Myers died Friday, July 18, 2008 at Autumn Cove. He is survived by his beloved wife, Mary Jo Myers, of Anniston; three daughters, Barbara Ide, of St. Louis, Mo., Marilyn Reynolds, and her husband, Perry, of Anniston, Ginny Myers, of Denver, Colo.; four grandchildren, Chris and Andrew Reynolds and Beth and Patty Ide. A Presbyterian by faith, Mr. Myers served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

ALBERTVILLE — Mr. Sam Clark Ogle Jr., 80, formerly of Anniston, died Friday morning, July 18, 2008, at Shepherdís Cove. Service will be at 11 a.m. Monday, July 21, 2008, at Guntersville First Baptist Church, Bro. Charles Watkins, Bro. Floyd Battles and Bro. David OíDell officiating with an interment service at 3 p.m. in the Edgemont Cemetery. McRae Funeral Home, Boaz, Alabama in charge of arrangements. Visitation will be this evening from 6-8 at the funeral home. Mr. Ogle was born in Talladega, Alabama on May 24, 1928 to Sam C. and Myrtle Dempsey Ogle. In 1994 he retired with almost 50 years of service from the Anniston Star News Paper where he served as the Circulation Director. He was a member of Guntersville First Baptist Church. Mr. Ogle is survived by his wife of 62 years, Lila Marie Ogle, of Albertville; sons, D. Clark Ogle, of Birmingham, Royce Ogle, of Boaz, Charles Ogle, of Anniston; daughters, Kathy Buckhannan, of Princeton, West Virginia and Judy OíDell, of Guntersville; 12 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be grandsons, Phillip Ogle, Kevin Ogle, Daniel Buckhannan, Jonathan OíDell, Jamie Sparks and Chris McVay.

Joe Gamble and the Rev. Charles Benefield officiating. Burial will follow in Cleburne Memory Gardens. Mr. Stockton passed away Friday, July 18, 2008, at Stringfellow Memorial Hospital in Anniston. Mr. Stockton is survived by three daughters, Kathy Harris, of Ranburne, Katrina Dingler, of Jacksonville and Angelia Shiflett, of Carrollton, Ga.; a step-daughter, Debbie Cater, of Hampton, Ga.; three sons, Lee Stockton, of Sparta, Ga., Jeremy Stockton, of Temple, Ga. and Jason Stockton, of Ranburne; a step-son, Joshua Johnson, of Ranburne; two sisters, Shirley Peason, of Sharpsburg, Ga. and Willine Hodgins, of Franklin N.C.; five brothers, Calvin, Doug and Tommy Stockton, all of Franklin, N.C., Jerry Stockton, of Blue Ridge, Ga. and Pete Stockton, of Pell City; 11 grandchildren. The family will receive friends at Ranburne United Methodist Church on Sunday, July 20, 2008 from 5-8 p.m. CST and until service time on Monday, July 21, 2008. Mr. Stockton was a Franklin N.C. native, a former resident of Stockbridge, Ga. and a resident of Heflin since 1980. He was born September 9, 1942, the son of David Joshua and Kathryn Bates Stockton. WILLIAMSON

ANNISTON — Funeral services for Lora C. Williamson, 89, of Anniston, will be 2 p.m. Monday, July 21, 2008 at Chapel Hill Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Truman Norred officiating. Burial will follow at Edgemont Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 this evening at the funeral home. Mrs. Williamson passed away Saturday at Northeast Alabama Regional Medical Center.

Survivors include, a daughter, Eva Jane Cole, of Anniston; grandchildren, Samantha Lee and husband, Mike, Charlene Abernathy and husband, Darryl, Charita Kelley, Brandon Cole and his wife, Dana; great-grandchildren; Christin Haynes and husband Jerod, Blake Hodge, Grant Abernathy and wife, Caitlyn, Chase Lee and wife, Ashley, Jordan Lee, Braxton Cole, Blaine Cole and Dylan Yates; great-great-grandchildren, Kinidi Hodge, Landon Abernathy and Garrett Haynes; sister, Mary Julia Daniel; sister-in-law, Virginia Johns
