Margaret D. Baswell, Ohatchee OHATCHEE — Funeral service for Mrs. Margaret D. Baswell, 87, will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 18, 2008, at Oak Bowery Baptist Church with the Rev. David Hayes officiating. Burial will follow at Cumberland Presbyterian Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until service time at the church. Mrs. Baswell passed away Sunday at her home. Survivors include two daughters, Gayle Reaves and her husband, Travis, of Ohatchee and Deborah Smith and her husband, Dennis, of Alexandria; two sons, Stanley Baswell and his wife, Debbie, and Steve Baswell and his wife, Linda, both of Ohatchee; three sisters, Mary Sue Baswell, of Oxford, Beulah Bennett, of Mt. Pleasant, S.C. and Faye Fulford, of Clanton; ten grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Baswell is preceded in death by her husband, Hoyt C. Baswell Jr. and great-granddaughter, Whitney Laine Gallahar. Pallbearers will be Rusty Reaves, Marty Reaves, Kevin Baswell, Mark Scanlan, Chad Baswell, and Jonathan Weathington. TALLADEGA — Funeral service for Mrs. Erma Harris, 79, will be announced by Terry's Metropolitan Mortuary. Mrs. Harris died June 14, 2008 at her home. OXFORD — Funeral services for Mrs. Sarah D. Holmes, 86, will be at 2 p.m. today, June 17, 2008, at Gray Brown Service Chapel with the Rev. W.H. Ford and Dr. Jerry Irwin officiating. Burial will follow at Forestlawn Gardens. Mrs. Holmes passed away Sunday in Anniston. Survivors include sons, Jerry Whorton and wife, Connie, of Centre, Jim Whorton and wife, Anita, of Powder Springs, Ga., Mike Fuqua and wife, Sue, of Tallapoosa, Ga.; nine grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren; sister, Myrtle Whitten and husband, W.L., of Leeds; brothers, Russell Barnwell, of Piedmont and Gordon Barnwell, of Tuscaloosa; three stepsons, Ronnie, Donnie and Randy Holmes. Pallbearers will be nephews. Mrs. Holmes was a lifelong resident of Calhoun County. She retired from A.O.D. She was a member of Harvest Temple. Mr. James is survived by his wife, Corile Combs James, of Wedowee; three daughters, Cynthia A. James, of Phoenix, Ariz., Jennifer L. Kennedy, of Wedowee, Deborah L. Brown, of Madison, MS; two sons, Charles L. James Jr., of Trophy Club, Texas, William D. James, of Klana, Wash.; his mother, Edna Clark James; one brother, Donald James, of Logansville, Ga.; eleven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren. Mr. James was born February 3, 1932, the son of Willie B. and Edna Frances Clark James. He was a member of Midway Methodist Church and retired as a quality control inspector for C.F. Braum. Mr. James is preceded in death by his father. HEFLIN — Services for Mr. Edward D. Johnson, 73, will be announced by Ervin Funeral Chapel. Benefield Funeral Home in charge. DALLAS — Quincy Xavier McClarity, infant son of Marcus Sheron McClarity and Jessica Renee Mathis, passed way on Wednesday, June 4, 2008. He was born in Austell on January 22, 2008. He is survived by his father, Marcus Sheron McClarity, and mother, Jessica Renee Mathis, both of Dallas; sister, Majesta Renee Graham, of Dallas; brother, Sheron Marquis McClarity, of Dallas; grandparents, Teresa Fennell and Michael Mathis, of Temple, and Harvis McClarity and Charlie Low, of Temple; great-grandparents, Brenda and Terry Dyer, of Wellington, Florine Wright, of Dallas, and John Lee Wright, of Rockmart; great-great-grandparents, Faye Glenn and Floyd Garrett, of Jacksonville; aunts, Kayla Fennell, Kristy Willis and Valerie Turner; other family and friends. Mrs. Merrill died Sunday, June 15, 2008, at Gadsden Regional Medical Center. She is survived by her husband, Tim Merrill; one sister, Joan Law Laney (Charles), of Centre; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Claude and Katherine Merrill, of Piedmont; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Sandra A. Merrill, of Charlotte, N.C., Suzanne Voss (Jim), of Piedmont, Jeffrey Merrill (Plum), of Forsyth, Ga. and Zach Merrill (Libby), of Greenville, S.C.; eight nieces; and one nephew, that she dearly loved; four great-nieces and three great-nephews; and special lifelong friend, Judy West Singleton (Charles), of Centre. Mrs. Merrill was a native and lifelong resident of Calhoun County. She was a graduate of Jacksonville High School and was employed for over 20 years in produce and advertising with Supervalu, Inc. She was preceded in death by her parents, Eugene and Vera Law; a sister, Robbie Carol Law Seaver; and a brother, Bobby Joe Law. ANNISTON — Funeral services Mr. Roderick Traylor, 45, will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 18, 2008, at Thankful Baptist Church with the Rev. Donovan Thomas officiating. Burial will be in the Eden Hills Cemetery in Anniston with Anniston Funeral services in charge. The family will receive friends tonight, June 17, 2008, from 6-8 at the funeral home. Mr. Traylor died on June 11, 2008 at Regional Medical Center. Survivors include a son, Anthony "Tony" (Sharonda) Traylor; sister, Felecia Traylor; and brother, Derrick (Tina) Traylor, all of Anniston; aunts, Cora Gilbert Cobb, Lucille Porter (Harold) Gilbert, Geneva Clayborn, Carrie Riggins, Gladys Lee, all of Anniston, Edna Boyd (Johnnie) Gilbert, Gracie Gilbert Lee, both of Hobson City, Hattie Ward (Pastor Austin), of Milwaukee, Wis., Fannie Gilbert Wiley, of Columbus, Ohio; uncles, James Gilbert, of Anniston; nieces and nephews, Delisha Traylor, of Anniston, Dajia and Kyasia Traylor, of New York, Jerald, Dejuan and Glenn Traylor, all of Anniston, Kasmaye, Derrick II, Darrius, and Devonte Traylor, all of New York; very close and best friends Steve Kelly and Gregory "Lil Chop" Thomas. Mr. Traylor was a life long resident and a member of the Mount Liberty Baptist Church and was in Masonic Lodge #308 Brutonville and worked for Battele (Sub Contractor) for Westinghouse and had served in the U.S. Air Force. He was preceded in death by his parents, Reese and Martha Traylor Jr.; grandparents, Reese and Josie Traylor Sr., L.G. and Lillie Mae Gilbert, Fannie Young and brother, Gerald Traylor. HEFLIN — Marcus Ray Turner, 91, passed away Monday, June 16, 2008, at his residence in Heflin. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 18, 2008, at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 tonight at Dryden Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be Marcus Turner, Wesley Turner, Kevin Turner, Brett Turner, Jim Roden, and Brittain Lorenz. Survivors include two daughters, Sandra (Jim) Roden, of Huntsville and Brenda (Phil) Baldwin, of Alpharetta, Ga.; three sons, Lynn (Carole) Turner and Lyle (Sandra) Turner, both of Birmingham, and Emil Turner, of Tuscaloosa; sisters, Malene Lester, of Oxford and Fern Lambert, of Plant City, Fla.; brother, Guy Turner, of Heflin; nine grandchildren, Krista (Ryan) Roden Sisk, Kari Roden, Marcus Turner, Wesley (Erin) Turner, Kimberly Baldwin, Stephanie (Brittain) Baldwin Lorenz, Kevin Turner, Brett (Ruth Ann) Turner, and Ashley Turner; four great-grandchildren, Savannah Sisk Britton Sisk, Dakota Brie Roden and Alannah Lorenz. Mr. Turner was a native and life long resident of Cleburne County. He was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, serving as Music Director and Custodian for many years. Mr. Turner retired from the Anniston Army Depot. He also served in the U.S. Army and was a Pearl Harbor survivor. Mr. Turner was preceded in death by his wife, Lois Teague Turner and his parents, Marcus Ward Turner and Minnie Morris Turner.
