Russell Howard Bain, Cedar Bluff CEDAR BLUFF — Funeral services for Mr. Russell Howard Bain, 84, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Salem United Methodist Church. Visitation from 6-8 tonight at Perry Funeral Home. ANNISTON — Era Belle Horton Davis, 87, died Tuesday, June 10, 2008, at her residence in Anniston. Survivors include her daughters, Jo Ann Ray (Wayne), of Anniston, Shirley Davis Cotton, (Mark), and Carolyn Davis (Bob), both of North Carolina; son, William Horton "Bubba" (Shirley), Locust Fork; 11 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; sisters, Monteze Jones, of Morris, Polly Mason, of Cullman and Peggy Price, of Pell City. Graveside services for Mrs. Davis will be at 11 a.m. today, June 13, 2008, at Pine Bluff Cemetery with Daryl Holt officiating and Lemley Funeral Home directing. She was born in Blount County, Alabama to Harley C. Tidwell and Sally Pearl McCay Tidwell. Mrs. Davis was a member of Pine Bluff Baptist, the Eastern Star and of the Scottish Rite Women of Birmingham. She was preceded in death by her parents, Harley and Sally Tidwell; husbands, Charlie Bryan Horton and Raymond W. Davis; son, Charlie Wayne Horton; sisters, Mary Will Tidwell and Roxie Presley; and brother, W.C. Tidwell. Burial will follow in Forestlawn Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6-8 this evening at the funeral home. Mr. Haynes passed away Wednesday at Stringfellow Memorial Hospital. Survivors include two daughters, Mary Linda Haynes Curry, of Glencoe and Bobbie Haynes Whorton and husband, Jim, of Corbin, Ky.; one son, Robert Haynes and wife, Margie, of Anniston; one sister, Frances Sparks, of Laguna Beach, Fla.; one brother, Earl Haynes, of Oxford; nine grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren; special family, Ursula Lawson, Kenneth Lawson, Danny Lawson and Jenny Lawson. Mr. Haynes was a native of Anniston and a member of the First Baptist Church of Saks and is a member of the Local VFW #924. Mr. Haynes is a U.S. Army veteran. He retired from the Anniston Army Depot and was owner of Percy's Body Shop in Oxford. Mr. Haynes is preceded in death by his wife, Myrtis B. Haynes and his parents, Grover and Mary Haynes. OXFORD — Funeral services for Julia Ruth McDowell, 82, will be 2 p.m. today in the chapel of Miller Funeral Home & Crematory with the Rev. William P. "Buddy" Nelson officiating. Burial will follow in the Oxford Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Miss McDowell died Monday at Stringfellow Memorial Hospital. She is survived by her sister, Edith M. Cockrell, of Oxford; two nieces, Anita C. Shelton (Larry), of Powder Springs, Ga., and Dee Hupp (Joe), of Johnson City, Tenn.; and two nephews, William C. Lamar (Evelyn), of Blairsville, Ga., and Robert L. Cockrell (Jean), of Fairfax, Va.; as well as many grand-nieces and nephews and great grand-nieces and nephews. Miss McDowell was a life-long resident of Oxford. She retired from Anniston Ordinance Depot after more than 41 years of service. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Oxford, and the Order of the Easter Star. Pallbearers will be Butch Haynes, Buford Parker, Gerald Grizzard, Dwight Rice, Bruce Rice, and Bill Hendley. Miss McDowell was preceded in death by her brother, Guy E. McDowell, and two sisters, Gladys M. McDowell and Mildred M. Lamar. The family will receive friends this evening from 6-8 at Gray Brown-Service Mortuary. Mr. Rayburn passed away June 12, 2008 at Stringfellow Memorial Hospital. Stacey Boutwell officiating. Burial will follow at Crestwood Cemetery in Gadsden. The family will receive friends from noon until time of service at the funeral home. Mr. Rogers passed away June 9, 2008 at Stringfellow Memorial Hospital, after a lenghty illness. He is survived by his wife, Betty Robertson Rogers, special cat, Angel "Button"; stepdaughter, Debra Eady; brother, Larry Rogers; sister, Sallie Sanford; brother-in-law, Larry Rutherford; chosen son, Fred Davis; aunts, Lucille Cross, Lois Freeman, Ruth Grant, Sidney Franklin, Myrt Franklin and Cora Lee Odell; nieces, Vicki chambers (Steve) and Shannon Guess; nephews, Jon Rogers and Jeremy Rogers; and several special cousins. Pallbearers will be Mickey Miller, Garry Eady, Faron Hughes, Ronnie Clark, Ronnie Key and Donnie Reaves. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Mohammad Ismail, 3rd Floor North Nursing Staff of Stringfellow Memorial Hospital and Dr. Nolan Hudson. Mr. Rogers was a native of Piedmont and lived most of his life in Anniston. He was a U.S. Navy veteran and served aboard the USS Independence ship and served his country by laying the foundation for the operation of "Operation Deep Freeze" which is the code name for constant operations missions to Antarctica. This operation still continues today. Mr. Rogers retired from Super Valu in June 2002, after 34 years of service. He was a member of the American Legion and enjoyed traveling and deep sea fishing. He was a master carpenter, brick mason, mechanic and loved to work with his hands. In his travels throughout the country, he would buy clocks and watches and restored them to their original beauty. Mr. Rogers was preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Mary Sanford; twin brother, Terry Rogers; sister, Ann Ritherford; stepson, Steven Robertson; uncles, Howard Franklin and Louis Franklin; father/mother-in-law, J.C. and Carrie Terrell.
