ALVIS

WEDOWEE — Funeral services for Mr. Frank L. Alvis, 69, will be at Tuesday, April 29, 2008 at 11 a.m., at Ava United Methodist Church with the Rev. Richard Smith and the Rev. Mike Samuels officiating. Burial will follow in the adjoining cemetery with Benefield Funeral Home of Wedowee in charge of the arrangements. The family will receive friends at the funeral home, Monday, April 28, 2008, from 5-8 p.m. Mr. Alvis died Friday, April 25, 2008, at Wedowee Hospital. Mr. Alvis is survived by three sons; Mike (wife, Kim) Alvis, of Sharpsburg, Ga., Bear (wife, Lisa) Alvis, of Wedowee, and Chad (wife, Lissette) Alvis, of Newnan, Ga.; Companion, Ann Lipham, of Wedowee; one sister, Marilyn Montgomery, of Godfrey, Ill.; two brothers, John Dunn, of Princeton, Ind., and Snook Dunn, of Fresco, Ind.; six grandchildren, Abby Alvis, Rachel Alvis, Lauren Alvis, Lilly Alvis, Laine Alvis, and Kristin Alvis.

Pallbearers will be Jerry Uhde, Larry Montgomery, Bear Alvis, John Dunn, Chad Alvis, Jeremy Lipham and Mike Alvis. Mr. Alvis was born in Princeton, Ind., on August 25, 1938, the son of Kermit and Jane Risley Alvis. He was retired from Kason Industries in the Engineering Department, a member of Ava United Methodist Church. Preceded in death by his wife, Judy Alvis; his parents; and one brother, Steve Alivs. The family will accept flowers or request donations be sent to Ava United Methodist Church Building Fund, 1767 Old Highway 431, Wedowee, Ala., 36278.

MUNFORD — Funeral services for Debra Marie Crowe, 47, will be at 2 p.m. Monday, at Usrey Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. Monday, at the funeral home.

DEW

ANNISTON — Funeral services for James H. "Jimmy" Dew Jr., 65, will be 11 a.m. Saturday, May 3, 2008 at Gray Brown-Service Mortuary Chapel with Dr. Billy Harris officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service at the funeral home. Mr. Dew passed away Tuesday at Stringfellow Memorial Hospital. Gray Brown-Service Mortuary in charge of arrangements. GREENE

TEXARKANA, Texas — Serita Ann Greene, 51, was called home to be with her Lord and Savior on April 25, 2008 after a lengthy battle with cancer. Serita was born on April 2, 1957 in New Boston, Texas. She was married to Tony Greene on June 26, 1982 in New Boston, Texas. Serita was a RN and was employed by Huntsville Hospital and several medical practices in Huntsville, Alabama and formerly employed by Guntersville/Arab (Alabama) Medical Center and Wadley Hospital in Texarkana, Texas. She was a member of First Lutheran Church, Texarkana, Texas and formerly a member of St. Markís Lutheran Church in Huntsville, Alabama.

Serita was preceded in death by her husband, Tony Greene in 1996. She is survived by her son, Heath Greene of Mobile, Ala.; parents, Thurman and Mattie Briggs, New Boston, Texas; brothers, Thomas Briggs and wife, Faye, of New Boston, Texas, Jimmy Briggs and wife, Becky, of New Boston, Texas, Johnny Briggs and wife, DeLisa, of DeKalb, Texas; Keith Briggs and wife, Connie, of DeKalb, Texas; sisters, Mary Porter and husband, Joe ,of Texarkana, Texas, Martha Campbell and husband, Jerry, of New Boston, Texas, Magdalene Johnson and husband, Gene, of New Boston, Texas, Bunny Stewart and husband, Don, of New Boston, Texas, Bobbie Sue Mitchell and husband, Don, of Steelville, Mo., Shelia Oestmann and husband, Mark of Texarkana, Texas; and many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Wayne and Merl Greene, of Oxford, Ala. and a brother-in-law, Kevin Greene and friend Tommy Harkins, of Somerville, Ala. and a special friend, Karen Jones, of Huntsville, Ala.

Visitation will be at from 6-8 p.m. today, at East Funeral Home, 2807 Moores Lane, Texarkana, Texas A funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Monday, April 28, 2008 at East Funeral Home Chapel, 2807 Moores Lane, Texarkana, Texas with Dr. Barry Kolb of First Lutheran Church, Texarkana officiating. Services will also be conducted K.L. Brown Memory Chapel of Anniston Memory Chapel and entombment at Forestlawn Mausoleum, Anniston, Ala. at a later date. The family will be at the home of Mark and Shelia Oestmann, 3709 Pinoak, Texarkana, Texas Special thanks to Hospice of Texarkana, Cornerstone sitting service and a special care giver, Tonya Montiel. HENDERSON

ANNISTON — Graveside services for Mrs. Christine Hunter Henderson, 75, will be 2:30 p.m. Monday, April 28, 2008 at Mr. Olive Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Monday from 1-2 p.m., at Gray Brown-Service Mortuary. Mrs. Henderson passed away Friday, at Regional Medical Center.

Survivors include, one daughter, Linda Brooks and husband, Radford, of Cherokee County; four grandchildren, Ronnie Brooks and wife, Janet, Sandy Hord and husband, Patrick, Randall Brooks and wife, Christy, and Wednesday Brooks; 12 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; one sister, Geraldine Barksdale, of Anniston; one brother, Grady Hunter, of Lincoln; and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be members of the family and friends. Mrs. Henderson is preceded in death by her husband, Kenny Henderson and two brothers, Earl Hunter and Bobby Hunter. Mrs. Henderson was a member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church. Gray Brown-Service Mortuary in charge of arrangements. (256) 236-3441

POWELL

DESTIN, Fla. — Gerald Powell, 81, formerly of Anniston, passed away Monday, April 21, 2008 at Sacred Heart Hospital in Destin. He was born on September 23, 1926 in Centre, Alabama to the late Dr. and Mrs. William H. Powell. He was a graduate of Cherokee County High School and the University of Alabama. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Mr. Powell is survived by his wife, Janice Battles Powell, of Destin; daughter, Lisa Bridell and her husband, Billy, of Birmingham; son, Mike Powell, of Jacksonville; daughter, Jenny Pair, of Birmingham; brother, Phil Powell and his wife, Frankie, of Centre; sister, Willyne Mansfield and the late Laurence Mansfield, of Atlanta; eight grandchildren, Ragland, Brian and Mary Aileen Mackin, Jennifer Murray and her husband, William, Shane Forbus, Heather Forbus, Kirk Abernathy and his wife, Betsy, Mandy Whitson and her husband, Brian; and five great-grandchildren, Clara Grace, John, and Rainey Murray, Meghan Forbus, and Holland Abernathy. Memorial services will be at Grace Episcopal Church in Anniston at 2 p.m. on Friday, May 2, 2008. Donations may be made to Grace Episcopal Church, P.O. YANCEY

OHATCHEE — Funeral service for Mrs. Grace Inez Yancey, 97, will be Tuesday, April 29, 2008 at 11 a.m. at Chapel Hill Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Rodney Prickett and Tommy Hays officiating. Interment will follow at Anniston Memorial Gardens. The family invites all friends for visitation at the funeral home from 5-7 p.m. Monday, April 28, 2008. Mrs. Yancey passed away Thursday, April 24, 2008, at her residence.

Survivors include three sons, Billy Ray Peace and wife, Emma, of Talladega, Benny Frank Yancey and wife, Ludean, of Oneonta and Sam Yancey and wife, Joyce, of Ohatchee; three daughters, Mary Newman and husband, Barney, of Ohatchee, Pat Griffin and husband, Raymond, of Ohatchee and Helen Usrey and husband, Harold of Pinson; three daughters-in-law, Lillie Peace, of Houston Texas, Geraldine Peace of Selma and Rose Peace of Colorado Springs, CO; 21 grandchildren; 37 great- grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. Waiting in heaven to join her are her husbands, Adrick Peace and Warren Yancey and her sons, Charles Peace, Olander Peace and Barce Peace.

Pallbearers will be the grandsons. Mrs. Yancey was a native of St. Clair County and resident of Calhoun County most of her life. She was a member of Eastaboga Baptist Church and enjoyed quilting, cooking and growing flowers. The family extends special thanks to New Beacon Hospice.
