BAKER

PIEDMONT — Graveside services for Fred S. Baker, 85, will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Highland Cemetery with Father Alan Mackey officiating and Thompson Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Mr. Baker died Thursday at Northeast Alabama Regional Medical Center.

Survivors include one daughter, Marilyn Holland (Buster), of Piedmont; two sons, Fred J. Baker (Carolyn), of Prattville and Bill Baker (Cynthia), of Piedmont, seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and many other relatives. Mr. Baker was a native of Rock Run and had been a resident of Piedmont for many years. He was retired from the United States Navy and was preceded in death by his wife, Edna M. Baker and eight brothers and sisters.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Piedmont Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 333, Piedmont, Ala. 36272 or to the local Disabled American Veterans, P.O. Box 532, Piedmont, Ala. 36272.

BLAKE

WEAVER — Funeral services for Mr. Ajay Marcus Blake II, 26, will be 11 a.m. Saturday, April 19, 2008, at Weaver Congregational Methodist with Pastor Keith Merrett and Pastor James Durr officiating. Burial will follow at Anniston Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends this evening from 6-8 at Gray Brown-Service Mortuary. Ajay passed away Saturday at Emory Hospital in Atlanta.

Survivors include his wife, Erica Blake; one daughter, Felicia Blake; one son, Dontae Blake; his parents, Ajay and Arlene Blake; a brother, Julius Blake; his grandparents, Arthur Langhorne and Louise Blake; his mother and father-in-law, Cheryl and Rory Schweitzer; two sisters-in-law, Valerie Edmonds and Rachel Frodsham; and many other family members and friends. Ajay is preceded in death by grandparents, Eliza Langhorne and Willie Blake; aunt, Flossie M. Jones; and uncle, Chester Ray Blake.

Pallbearers will be Darryl Dickerson, O'Neal McRunells Jr., Anthony Langhorne, Anthony McRunells, Cedric Jackson, and Jermaine McRunells. Honorary pallbearers are Danny Garick, Eddie Gonzales, Robert Childs, Charles Edward Dickerson, James Jackson Jr., Lee McCary, Pat Garrett, and London Lassiter. Ajay was born June 2, 1981 in Washington, DC and spent the first two years with Dorothy Allen and his grandparents in New York. He went to school in Germany, Colorado and graduated from Weaver High School, where he was active in basketball and football and in the Weaver community. TALLADEGA — Funeral services for Mrs. Flora Mae Crim, 82, will be at 11 a.m., today at Usrey Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Bibbville Cemetery.

HILL

OHATCHEE — Funeral services for Mrs. Mattie L. Hill, 85, will be announced later by Gray Brown-Service Mortuary. Mrs. Hill passed away Thursday at Gadsden RMC.

LUKER

MORRIS — James D. "Jimmy" Luker, 59, of Morris, passed away on April 16, 2008. Mr. Luker was a native of Talladega and employed with Talladega Beverage Company with 20 years of service, he also was a member of Enon Baptist Church. He was a devoted husband, loving father, and grandfather. He is survived by his wife, Lynn Meadows Luker; son, James D. "Jay" (Michelle) Luker III, of Riverside, Lane (Rebecca) Luker, of Oxford and Colby Luker of Morris; daughter, Payton Luker, of Morris; sisters, Janice Young and Joni Davis; grandchildren, Jordan Luker, Morgan Turner, Dalton Luker, Braden Luker and Mikaela Hodges.

Funeral services for Mr. Luker will be at on Saturday, April 19, 2008, at 2 p.m. at Gardendale Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Moncrief Cemetery. Visitation will be tonight from 6 to 8 p.m. Gardendale Funeral Home directing.

ROBERTS

ANNISTON — Funeral services for Mr. James Arthur Roberts Jr. (Big Jim), 82, will be Saturday, April 19, 2008 at 2 p.m. at the Mt. Calvary Baptist Church in Anniston with the Rev. Mario McDaniel officiating. Burial will be in the New Liberty Cemetery in Anniston with Anniston Funeral services in charge. The body will be at the church one hour prior to services. Mr. Roberts died on April 13, 2008 at Regional Medical Center in Anniston.

Survivors include one son, James A. (Blackie) III; three daughters, Cassandra D. Roberts and Taffeta E. Denson, both of Anniston, Ala.; Cherry L. Davis, of Albany, Ga.; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren, one great-great- grandchild; sister, Gwendolyn R. Lewis, of St. Louis, Mo.; one sister-in-law, Bertha (Alex) Jones, of Buffalo, N.Y.; and one brother-in-law, Thomas (Dot) Caver, of Houston, Texas. Mr. Roberts was a life long resident and had served in the U.S. Army and retired from FMC. After retirement he was the owner and operator of D & N Grocery, also known as Ms. O'Neals and attended Mt. Calvary Baptist Church. Mr. Roberts was also a member of the Jackson Pride Lodge No. 662. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Florine Maddox Roberts; son, Warren Maddox; one great-grandchild; ten sisters; and two brothers.

SMITH

PIEDMONT — Little Mackenzie Lynn Smith, 4 months, died Wednesday, April 16, 2008. Mackenzie was born on December 7, 2007 in Jacksonville the daughter of David Smith and Amanda Messer. She was preceded in death by great-grandfather, Jimmy Messer; an aunt, Debra Kirkpatrick; and her namesake, Jaclyn Mackenzie Hooper.

Survivors include her parents, David Smith and Amanda Messer; grandparents, Jeannie Messer and Edward Smith, Forrest and Marie Smith; great grandparents, Brenda Estes, Jerry Lane Kiser, Charles Eugene Fortenberry, Larry and Myrtis Atkins and Lucille Daughtery. Several aunts and uncles and cousins also survive.

Funeral services for Mackenzie will be conducted on Saturday, April 19, 2008, at 2 p.m. from the chapel of the Folsom Funeral Home with the Rev. Tommy Ballew and John Childs officiating. Burial will follow in the Piedmont Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends this evening from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Mr. Jerry Major Kiser and Mr. Bryan Smith will serve as active pallbearers.
