BACKUS

JACKSONVILLE — Funeral services for Mr. Gordon "Lee" Backus, 82, will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Gray Brown Service Chapel with the Rev. Robert Smith Jr. officiating. Burial will follow at Edgemont Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:30 until 8 tonight at Gray Brown Service. Mr. Backus passed away Monday in Jacksonville.

Survivors include his sons, Bill Backus, of Jacksonville, Bob Backus and wife, JoAnn, of Jacksonville, Mike Backus and wife, Cindy, of Huntsville; grandchildren, Katherine Conn and husband, Vince, Spence Backus, Scott Backus, and Missy Backus; sisters, Lynn Backus Daugherty, of Glencoe and Mary Gladys Backus Hight, of Oxford; and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Johnny Stinson, Chip Stinson, Billy Daugherty, Scott Backus, Spencer Backus, and Vince Conn. Mr. Backus was a native and lifelong resident of Calhoun County and a member of Weaver 1st United Methodist Church. He served in the Army during World War II. Mr. Backus was the owner and operator of Lee's Drive Inn in Anniston during the 40s, 50s, and 60s. He also operated several other restaurants until 2006. Mr. Backus is preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Joyce Cole Backus; two sisters, Flora Belle Fleming, and Dessie Mae Burdette; one brother, Roscoe Backus and his parents, Mr. and Mrs. H.E. Backus.

WEAVER — Funeral services for Mr. Ajay Marcus Blake II, 26, will be 11 a.m., Saturday, April 19, 2008, at Weaver Congregational Methodist with Pastor Keith Merrett and Pastor James Durr officiating. Burial will follow at Anniston Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Friday evening from 6-8 at Gray Brown-Service Mortuary. Ajay passed away Saturday at Emory Hospital in Atlanta.

COLQUITT

ANNISTON — Clint Richard Colquitt, 26, passed away April 12, 2008 at RMC. Mr. Colquitt is survived by father, Ron Colquitt and stepmother, Sue Barger Colquitt, of Summerfield, Fla.; brother, Andy Colquitt and wife, Lisa, of Goose Creek, S.C.; grandparents, Agnes C. Jones, of Anniston and Owen and Maxine Dolan, of LaGrange, Ky.; several aunts, uncles, cousins and his fiancČ, Amanda Collett, of Heflin. He was preceded in death by mother, Linda Rhodes; stepfather, Herschel Rhodes; and his grandfather, B.R. Colquitt. A memorial service will be announced at a later date. DAUGHERTY

SAKS — Funeral services for Carmen Daugherty, 66, will be Thursday at 1 p.m. at Anniston Memorial Funeral Home with the Rev. Mike Owens officiating. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends this evening from 5 until 7 at the funeral home. Mrs. Daugherty died Monday at her home.

Survivors include her husband, Dave Daugherty; her mother and father-in-law, Evelyn and Paul Hooper; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Harold and Nancy Daugherty; brother-in-law, Doug Hooper; several nieces, nephews, cousins and her special pet, Sophie. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Ruth Davies. Friends will serve as pallbearers. Mrs. Daugherty was a lifelong resident of Calhoun County and was retired from C. M. Offray Company. She was a former Volunteer at Regional Medical Center, a member of the Indian Oaks Ladiesí Golf Association and was of the Baptist faith. ANNISTON — Funeral services for Infant, Landace Blake Davis, two weeks, will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, April 17, 2008, in the chapel of Miller Funeral Home & Crematory with the Rev. Jonathan Pate officiating. Burial will follow in the Dogwood Trails Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends this evening from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. The Infant died on April 12, 2008.

McKERLEY

BLUE MOUNTAIN — Memorial services for Sally Ann McKerley, 69, will be at a later date with K.L. Brown Funeral Home and Cremation Center directing. Mrs. McKerley died Tuesday at RMC in Anniston. She is survived by her husband, Melvin McKerley Sr., of Blue Mountain; two daughters, Shelia Wilson and Patricia Butcher, both of Ohatchee; two sons, Melvin Q. McKerley Jr. and John Nix; one brother, Thurman Nix, all of Jacksonville; three grandchildren, Wendy Mink, Gary Wilson, Robert Scott; nine great-grandchildren; three nieces and four nephews. Mrs. McKerley was a member of Life Tabernacle Church and worked for several years at Blue Mountain Cotton Mill and Jacksonville Cotton Mill. She loved her family, was a friend to all she knew, a homemaker, were she raised five children and loved and cared for her grandchildren and her great-grandchildren. WOODLAND — Funeral services for Mrs. Katherine Johnson Rampey, 82, will be at 2 p.m. today from the Shiloh Baptist Church with the Rev. Timothy Holt, Dr. Barry Cosper and the Rev. Ronnie Puckett officiating. Mrs. Rampey will lie in state one hour before the service at the church. Burial to follow in the adjoining church cemetery with Benefield Funeral Home of Wedowee in charge of the arrangements. Mrs. Rampey died Monday, April 14, 2008 at Stringfellow Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Rampey is survived by her husband, Charlie "Charles" B. Rampey Jr., of Woodland; one brother, Benjamin E. Johnson, of Roanoke; one brother-in-law and sisters-in-law, Crouch and Yvonne Rampy, of Woodland, Mrs. Horace Rampy; and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be David Johnson, Ben Johnson, Todd Rampy, Charles P. Rampy, Philip C. Rampy, and Timothy Rampy. Honorary pallbearers will be the deacons of Shiloh Baptist Church. Mrs. Rampey was born November 2, 1925 the daughter of Robert B. and Ethel Earnest Johnson. She was an active member of the Shiloh Baptist Church, where she was known affectionately as "Miss Katherine". She loved her Lord, her husband Charles, and the church where she met Jesus and served him faithfully. Mrs. Rampey was a member of the Senior Adult Sunday School class, WMU, sign and communion committees and former choir member, also Thursday's Ladies Bible Study group. She prepared each week's Sunday bulletin, and spent many hours as church clerk gathering old church records and organizing them. She leaves a legacy of commitment and dedication for everyone. Mrs. Rampey had worked in the accounting department for Marvin's Hardware. She was preceded in death by her parents. Flowers will be accepted or donations to Shiloh Baptist Church.

RUSH

PIEDMONT — Graveside services for Mrs. Elsie Rush, 85, will be Thursday at 11 a.m. (Eastern Time) at Highland Memorial Park in Knoxville, Tennessee with the Rev. Gary Black officiating and Thompson Funeral Home in charge. The family will receive friends from 6-8 this evening at Thompson Funeral Home. Mrs. Rush died Tuesday, April 15, 2008, at Regional Medical Center in Anniston.

Survivors include one daughter, Judy R. Black (Gary), of Piedmont; two sons, Barry Phillips, of Hightstown, N.J. and Dennis Rush (Cathy), of Knoxville, Tenn.; seven grandchildren, Jason Black, Heather B. McDivitt (Daryl), Deborah Phillips, Cynthia Phillips, Mark Phillips, Andrew Rush and Susan Rush; and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Rush was born February 27, 1923 in Hellier, Ky. the daughter of the late Noah and Sarah Wallace. She lived most of her life in Kentucky and New Jersey. She had been a Piedmont resident for the past five years. She was of the Primitive Baptist faith. She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl E. Rush; her parents, and eight brothers and sisters. STEWART

NEWELL — Funeral services for Mrs. L.C. Williams Stewart, 94, will be at 11 a.m. today, April 16, 2008 from the Smyrna Baptist Church with the Rev. Brian Smith and The Rev. Keith Rivers officiating. Mrs. Stewart will lie in state one hour before the service at the church. Burial to follow in the adjoining church cemetery with Benefield Funeral Home of Wedowee in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Stewart died Monday, April 14, 2008, at Lineville Nursing Facility. Mrs. Stewart is survived by caretakers, Barry and Patsy Daniel, of Newell; grandson, Mike Stewart, of Birmingham.

Pallbearers will be Barry Daniel, Carroll Brock, Harold Herren, Robert Hurst, and Larry Hill. Honorary pallbearers are Bobby Stewart, Byrd Stewart and Neal Stewart. Mrs. Stewart was born February 24, 1914, the daughter of Boss and Carrie Ellen Nolen Williams. She was a member of the Smyrna Baptist Church and a seamstress inspector for Sewell Manufacturing. Mrs. Stewart was preceded in death by her husband, Horace Stewart; her parents; one son, Shelly Fred.

TIDWELL

LAFAYETTE — Funeral services for Thomas "Tommy" Alan Tidwell, 51, will be 2 p.m. today, April 16, 2008, from Quattlebaum Funeral Chapel.

USREY

OPA-LOCA, Fla. — Paul Wayne Usrey "Muscles", 62, formerly of Saks, passed away January 26, 2008 of natural causes. He is survived by his sister, Merelyn Usrey Underwood, and brothers, John and Ralph Usrey, all of Saks. Mr. Usrey was a 1962 graduate of Saks High School. He was involved for many years in the Anniston Parks and Recreation baseball and softball programs. A private memorial service will be at Edgemont Cemetery. The family will receive friends afterwards at his sisters' home at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 19, 2008.

MARIETTA, Ga. — John Young Jr., 79, died Monday, April 14, 2008. Mr. Young is retired from the Smyrna Police Dept., and he was a member of the American Legion Post 160 and the Nelm's Masonic Lodge. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force serving during the Korean War, and he is of Baptist Faith.

Survivors include his wife, Sarah Edwards Young, of Marietta, Ga.; daughters, Sabrina (Wayne) Young Jones, of Dallas, Ga., Katrina (Henry) Young Cambron, of Dallas, Ga.; grandchildren, Jonny Cambron, Jason Jones, and Sarah Jones; also surviving are several nieces and nephews.
