Lumas Allen, Hobson City HOBSON CITY — Funeral services for Mr. Lumas Allen, 62, will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, April 10, 2008, at Anniston Funeral Service Chapel with the Rev. Frederick Durant officiating. Burial will be in the Hobson City Memorial Gardens in Hobson City with Anniston Funeral services in charge. The body will be in the chapel until time of services. Mr. Allen died on April 5, 2008 at Regional Medical Center in Anniston. Survivors include his wife, Linda Allen, of Hobson City; two daughters, Barbara Garrett (Rico), of Hobson City, and Dawnya Thomas (Alvin), of Detroit, Mich.; one brother, James Allen, of Auburn; eight grandchildren, four sisters-in-law; Victoria Allen, Betty Wright, and Mary Ferrell, all of Hobson City, and Shirley Dixon of Anniston; three brothers-in-law; Kimmy (Rita) Fluker, of Hobson City, Sylvester (JoAnn) Fluker, and Percy (Shirley) Fluker, both of Oxford. Visitation from 4-8 this evening at Benefield Funeral Home. ANNISTON — Larry "Pop" Hawk, 64, a native of Bessemer and longtime resident of Anniston, died Monday, April 7, 2008, of a broken heart. Larry, a former Marine and mechanic, was a Civil War buff and enjoyed golf, traveling with his wife to see their children and tinkering with cars. He was preceded in death by his parents, Herman Edward and Pearl Hawk; by his beloved wife, Barbara Jean Hawk. Survivors include his son, Larry W. Hawk Jr., his wife, Tracy and their three children, Gregory, Hannah and Jackson; his daughter, Christine Ball, her husband, Jason and their three children, Christopher, Shelby and Gabrielle. The family will receive friends at Brown Service West Chapel Funeral Home in Hueytown from 6 until 8 this evening, April 9, 2008. A private burial at Cedar Hill Cemetery will follow on Thursday. OHATCHEE — Funeral service for Mrs. Joyce Cochran Howard, 74, will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, April 10, 2008, at Chapel Hill Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Tom Terry officiating. Interment will follow at Oak Bowery Baptist Cemetery. The family will receive friends this evening 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Mrs. Howard passed away Tuesday, April 8, 2008, at NEARMC. Mrs. Howard is survived by her husband, Laymond Howard, of Ohatchee; daughter, Lana Ferguson and husband, Steve, of Ohatchee; grandchildren, Edwin Howard Ferguson and Christopher Ferguson. Pallbearers will be George Smith, Wendell Reid, Stanley Jones, Willie Martin, James Taylor, Clarence Truitt and Raymond Howard. Mrs. Howard was native of Calhoun County and lifelong resident of Ohatchee. She was a retired elementary teacher with Calhoun County Board of Education. The family will receive friends tonight from 5:30 to 7:30 at the funeral home. Mrs. Owens died Monday at Stringfellow Memorial Hospital. Survivors include her husband of 50 years, The Rev. James L. Owens; son, James L. Owens Jr. and his wife, April; grandchildren, Alexis Morgan Owens, McKenzie Renay Owens, James Hayden Owens, Mallory Rose Owens; and a host of nieces and nephews. WEDOWEE — Funeral services for Mrs. Barbara Gail Smith, 71, will be at 12 p.m. today from the First Baptist Church of Wedowee with the Rev. Don Paris officiating. Burial to follow in the Wedowee City Cemetery with Benefield Funeral Home of Wedowee in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends from 10 until 12 p.m. at the church. Mrs. Smith died Sunday, April 6, 2008 at Stringfellow Hospital. Mrs. Smith is survived by her husband, Billy D. Smith, of Wedowee; one daughter, Michelle and husband, Tony Grande, of Knoxville, Tenn.; one son, Michael and wife, Teresa; five grandchildren, Ashley and A.J. Grande, Michael, Scott and Grace Smith; sister-in-law, Amelia Davis, of Atlanta; one brother, Marion and wife, Kitty Davis Jr., of Tampa, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be the Deacons of the First Baptist Church. Honorary pallbearers will be the Karcher Sunday School Class. Mrs. Smith was born May 30, 1936, the daughter of Marion and Alice Griffin Davis. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Wedowee and a homemaker. Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Clifford Davis. WEDOWEE — Funeral services for James Donald "Don" Thomas, 63, will be at 2 p.m. EST Thursday at Corinth Baptist Church, Fayetteville, Ga. Visitation from 5-8 this evening at Benefield Funeral Home of Wedowee. RANBURNE — Mr. Lee Ondis Yarbrough, 61, passed away on Tuesday, April 8, 2008. Mr. Yarbrough was born in Anderson County, Tennessee on August 27, 1946 to J.O. Yarbrough and the late Alma Jean Giles Yarbrough. He is survived by his father; his brothers, Bobby Yarbrough, and his girlfriend, Robin Lilley, and Jimmy Bunch and his wife, Nettie; his sister, Betty Gentry and her husband, Dale Gentry; and his nieces and nephews, Brandy Gentry, Jason Gentry, Jamie Bunch, Christopher Bunch, Robby Dailey, Heather Smith, Aidan Carroll, and Noah Stewart. Funeral services for Mr. Lee Ondis Yarbrough will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 10, 2008, at Wise's Chapel in Heflin. the Rev. Alan Giles will officiate. The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers: Karry Yarbrough, Wendell Yarbrough, Chuck Yarbrough, Robby Dailey, David Carroll, and Jason Gentry.
