ALLEN

MILLERVILLE — Funeral services for Mr. John W. Allen, 95, of Millerville will be at today, March 30, 2008, at 2 p.m., in the chapel of Clay County Funeral Home with the Rev. Jim Arnall and the Rev. Richard East officiating. Mr. Allen passed away Thursday, March 27, 2008, at Clay County Hospital. He was a native and lifelong resident of Clay County. He had pthe Reviously been employed at both the Clay County Road Department and the Shell Plant in Sylacauga. He was an avid gardener, carpenter and a big fan of gospel singing. He received a 28 year plaque for attending Sunday morning services at Clay County Nursing Home. He enjoyed participating in the Senior Citizens Groups at both Big Springs and Bethel Church and was a member of Masonic Lodge #356 F & AM. Mr. Allen was preceded in death by his parents, Alvin and Mattie Allen; wife of 62 years, Lorell K. Allen; son-in-law, Frank S. Phillips; grandson, David Phillips; brothers, Seab, Warner, Willis and Emra Allen; and sister, Connie Robinson. Mr. Allen is survived by two daughters, Mozelle G. Allen, of Millerville, and Charlene A. Phillips, of Ashland; grandchildren, Jenny Tidmore (Kent), Jerry F. Phillips (Suzanne), Jason E. Phillips (Laurie); eight great-grandchildren, Jansen Tidmore (Laura), Jerron Tidmore, Jeremy F. Phillips, Jacob Phillips, John David Phillips, Jase Phillips, Marleigh Phillips and Macy Phillips. Serving as pallbearers for Mr. Allen will be Jimmy Allen, Thomas Anderson, Reginald Blair, Donald Bowen, Kenny Packer, Wade Price, Richard Runyan and Billy Williamson. Honorary pallbearers will be Lecroy Teel, Charlie Hickman, Earl Haynes, Buddy Jones, Roy Ledford, Buck Anderson, Marvin Lanthrip, Ronnie Bryant, Fred Morris, Terry Crawford, Troy Griffin, Howard Price, Wayne Osbourn, Kenneth Ingram and Steve Gordon. Clay County Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

COE

WEDOWEE — Funeral services for Mrs. Katherine Lovvorn Coe, of Wedowee, age 88, will be at Tuesday, April 1, 2008, from the First Baptist Church of Wedowee, with The Rev. Don Paris officiating. Mrs. Coe will lie in state at the church one hour before the service. Burial will follow at the Wedowee City Cemetery with Benefield Funeral Home of Wedowee in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m., Monday, March 31, 2008, at the funeral home.

Survivors include three sons, Gene Coe and wife, Deanie, of Birmingham, John Coe of Auburn, Tim Coe and wife, Suzy, of Wedowee; seven grandchildren, Alison Strong, David Coe, Connie Haas, Rich Coe, Katie Dunn, Carrie Gay and Rob Coe; five great-grandchildren, Sydney Strong, Caroline and Lucy Haas, Anna Grace and Katherine Gay.

Pallbearers will be Rich Coe, David Coe, Rob Coe, Rodney Haas, Jim Strong, Eric Dunn and Justin Gay. Mrs. Coe was born, April 14, 1919, daughter of Iverson and Dessie Traylor Lovvorn. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Wedowee, a homemaker, a member of the Woman's Study Club, WMU, Builders Sunday School Class and a former member of Wedowee Garden Club. Mrs. Coe was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert E. Coe, Sr.; her parents; one son, David Benny Coe; and one sister, Alice Lovvorn.

FREEMAN

ANNISTON — Funeral services for Mrs. Elizabeth (Beth) Freeman, age 55, of Anniston, will be at on Monday, March 31, 2008, 2 p.m., at Parker Memorial Baptist Church with the Reverend Dr. Billy Harris and Dr. Mack Amis officiating. Internment will follow at Forestlawn Gardens Cemetery. The family will receive friends today from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. at the funeral home. Mrs. Freeman died March 28, 2008, at Stringfellow Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Freeman was a member of Parker Memorial Baptist Church; she retired from the Congressional Office, District 3 and served with Representatives Bill Nichols through Representative Mike Rogers. She was crowned Miss Weaver in the first Miss Weaver Beauty Pageant. She is preceded in death by her father, Lloyd W. Godbee and brother, Douglas Godbee. Mrs. Freeman is survived by her husband, Joseph B. Freeman, Anniston; son, Heath Adams and wife, Laura, Roxoboro, N.C.; three stepsons, Jody, David and Bob; mother, Mary Elizabeth Godbee, Siloam, Ga.; sisters, Melissa West and husband, Steve, Jacksonville, Glenda Isbell and husband, Mike, of Anniston; brother, Donald Godbee and wife, Theresa, of Smyrna, Tenn.; one grandchild, Hunter Adams; seven step-grandchildren; two nieces and four nephews.

Pallbearers will be Jennifer West, Raymond Isbell, Joshua Isbell, Ralph White, William Weiser and James McCloud. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Anna Sunday School Class of Parker Memorial Baptist Church. GUNTER

MUNFORD — Mr. Clyde Lee Gunter, age 79, of Munford, died Friday, March 28, 2008 at Sylacauga Health and Rehabilitation. Mr. Gunter was a native of Clay County, resident of the Munford area most of his life and of the Baptist faith. He was the owner and operator of Gunter Timber and Lumber Company. Mr. Gunter was a graduate of Munford High School, class of 1947. He was a Veteran of the U.S. Army. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Ann T. Gunter of Munford; daughter and son-in-law, Teresa Renee G. and Ricky Watts of Munford; daughter, Connie Lynn Gunter Bishop of Bynum; daughter and son-in-law, Karen Leigh G. and Anthony Arnold of Renfroe; sister and brother-in-law, Chris Gunter and Robert A. Martin of Birmingham; five grandchildren, Mathew Lee Bishop, Bryan Anthony Arnold, Craig Watts, Chad Watts, Ashley Watts Gaither; and six great-grandchildren. Services will be held, Monday, March 31, 2008, at 2:30 p.m., from Usrey Brown-Service Funeral Home with Jeff Clark officiating. Burial will be in Providence Cemetery. ANNISTON — Funeral service for Mr. Joseph Edward Helms Sr., 72, of Anniston, will be 2 p.m. Monday March 31, 2008 at Gray Brown Service Chapel with the Rev. James Cohorn officiating. Burial will follow at Anniston Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends today from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Mr. Helms passed away Friday, March 28, 2008 at Regional Medical Center.

Survivors include his wife, Kathern Dean Helms, of Anniston; five daughters, Kathy Smith and husband, Michael of Oxford, Judy Grantham and husband, Donny of Piedmont, Kay Brakeman and husband Bruce, of Anniston, Sandra Manning and fiance, Jeff Catlett of Wellborn, Dian Phillips and husband, Ricky of Oneonta; three sons, Jody Helms and wife, Wendy of Tonopah, Nv, Edward Helms and wife, Charla, of Anniston, Kenny Helms and wife, Pama of Moody; 20 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren; two sister Pauline Wilson and husband, Larry of Fairview, NC, and Agnes Helms of North Carolina; several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Nick Waugh, Colby Helms, Todd Manning, Scott Manning, Jonathon Catlett, Jack Catlett, Daniel Grantham, Michael Butterworth. Honorary pallbearers will be Noah Smith and Taylor Helms. Mr. Helms was a native of Fairview, NC and a resident of Anniston. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. HEFLIN — Funeral services for Mrs. Sallie Edwards Little, age 104, of Heflin will be 2 p.m., today, March 30, 2008, at Crossroads Baptist Church in Heflin with the Rev. Fornie Walker and the Rev. Buford Gaines officiating. The body will lie in state one hour prior to services. Burial will be at Lower Cane Creek Primitive Baptist Cemetery in Heflin. Mrs. Little died Thursday at Northeast Regional Medical Center.

Pallbearers will be Stephen Clay, James Bell, Danny Phillips, The Rev. Gary Robinson, Derrick Tims, and John Fleming. Mrs. Little is survived by her grandchildren, Steve Clay and wife, Janie, of Munford, great-grandchildren, Stephen Clay and wife, Jennifer, of Heflin, Keaton Clay of Munford, Miranda Clay of Heflin and Tiffany Barber, of Munford; great-great-grandchildren, Baleigh Clay, Stephen Clay and Bryton Clay; and three nephews, Ray Junior, Danny Phillips and James Bell. Mrs. Little was a native and life long resident of Heflin. She was a member of the Crossroads Baptist Church and was a devout Christian and a very loving person. BANKS — Mr. Fred McDaniel, age 97, a resident of Banks died, Friday, March 28, 2008. Funeral services will be at Monday, March 31, 2008, at 2 p.m., from the Chapel of Dillard Funeral Home in Troy. Survivors include two sons, Robert F. (Betty) McDaniel of Valparaiso, Fla. and Wendell (Paula) McDaniel, Oxford; daughter, Grace (Joseph D.) Senn of Banks; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. ROANOKE — Funeral services for Mrs. Darie T. Hodges, of Roanoke, age 75, will be at Monday, March 31, 2008, at 2 p.m., from Quattlebaum Funeral Chapel with The Rev. Mickey Skipper, The Rev. Mark Tatum, The Rev. Rick Meads and The Rev. Bill Calhoun officiating. Burial will follow at the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery with Quattlebaum Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends today, from 3 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home. Mrs. Hodges died Saturday, March 29, 2008 at her home.

Survivors include one daughter, Donna Hill, of Roanoke; four sons, David Hodges and wife, Linda, Joey Hodges, Donald Hodges and wife, Lisa, Clay Hodges and wife, Charlotte, all of Roanoke; eight sisters, Katie Shaw of Huguley, Frances Bowles of Harrison, Ind., Mary Nichols of Whitesboro, Ga., Grace Scott and Ruth Teague, both of Lanett, Hazel Franklin of Tuscaloosa, Jimmy Smith and Peggy Anglin, both of Lakeland, Fla.; one brother, Bobby Joe Thomas of Lakeland, Fla.; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Pallbearers will be Stanley Thomas, Ricky Scott, Craig Calhoun, Jerry Stewart, Thomas Nichols and Lester Baldwin. Mrs. Hodges was born August 4, 1932, daughter of James Lester and Ada Rochester Thomas. She wa a member of the Handley Ave Church of God and had been a seamstress of Palm Beach Company. Mrs. Hodges was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Hodges; her parents and two brothers, Authur and Billy Thomas.

PARKER

LINCOLN — Mrs. Carlene Parker, age 60, died March 28, 2008, at Northeast Alabama Regional Medical Center. Services will be announced by Terry's Metropolitan Mortuary.

PEARCE

ANNISTON — Funeral services for J.B. Pearce, 88, of Anniston, will be 2 p.m., today, March 30, 2008, at Gray Brown-Service Mortuary with The Dr. William Snow officiating. Burial will follow at Edgemont Cemetery. The family will receive friends on today from 1-2 p.m. at the funeral home. Mr. Pearce passed away Thursday, March 27, 2008, at Regional Medical Center.

Survivors include his wife, of 67 years, Evelyn Hollingsworth Pearce; four sisters, Lorine Blaydes, Imogene Self and husband, Dewitte, Catherine McCurry, Gwenloyne Abernath; one bother, Marion Pearce and wife, Sue; and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Willie Fleming, Ernest Brown, Daryl Fleming, Bruce Tankersly, Glenn Tankersly, Charles Kirkland, Vic Tankersley, and Doyal Carrie. Mr. Pearce was a member of Edgewood Congregational Methodist Church. He was a Veteran of the U.S. Navy and retired from Fort McClellan with over 40 years of service. He was a loving husband and a wonderful friend and will be missed by all.
