ASHLAND — Funeral services for Mrs. Willie Pearle Atkisson, 88, of Ashland will be at Friday, January 25, 2008 at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Clay County Funeral Home with Mancel Carpenter and Edwin Carpenter officiating. Burial will follow at Ashland Cemetery. Mrs. Atkisson passed away Tuesday, January 22, 2008 at Columbiana Health and Rehabilitation Center.

Mrs. Atkisson lived a long and blessed life. She was a 1937 graduate of Bibb Graves High School, Millerville, Ala. Following high school, she was employed as a bookkeeper at Claude Thomas Chevrolet in Ashland. In 1946, she married Clyde F. Brown; prior to his death, they had two children. As a young widow, she went to work for Alabama Power Company. She was a charter member of the Ashland Church of Christ and the Ashland Progressive Club, and a lifetime member of the Girl Scouts of America as well. In 1966, she married Otho C. Atkisson, who also preceded her in death. She often joked that she found two good men in her life, when some can't even find one. She retired from Alabama Power Company after a 25 year career there and enjoyed serving as a member of Clay County Hospice and the Clay County Historical Society. Community involvement was very important to her.

Mrs. Atkisson is survived by a son, Walt Brown of Cincinnati, Ohio, a daughter, Helen Rardin and husband, Rodney of Alabaster, Ala., one granddaughter, Angela Tucker and husband, Dana Tucker and a great grandson, Colby Ryan Tucker, of Weddington, N.C.
