BROOKS

LINCOLN — Funeral services for Montez Langley Brooks, 87, of Lincoln, Ala., will be 2 p.m. Friday, November 23, 2007 at Gray Brown-Service Mortuary Chapel with the Rev. Tim Brooks officiating. Burial will follow at Forestlawn Gardens. The family will receive friends Friday two hours prior to the service at the funeral home. Mrs. Brooks passed away Monday in Anniston.

Survivors include: one daughter, Janice Carroll and husband, Joe, of Covington, Ga., one son, Gene Langley and wife, Peggy, of Anniston; one step-daughter, Sharon Cox and husband, Randy, of Port Orange, Fla., six grandchildren, Danny Carroll, Jilda Chapman, Jeff Carroll, Margaret Orgo, Jerry Langley, Paul Langley and Kristen Cox; nine great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Willadean Brooks and husband, Bill of Union Grove, Ala., one brother, Jimmy Kennamer and wife, Loretta, of Guntersville; numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Jimmy Kennamer Jr., Larry King, Ray Warren, Keith Edmonds, Wayne Carden and David Smith.

Mrs. Brooks was a native of Marshall County and a resident of Lincoln, Ala. She was a member of Warrenton Baptist Church.

Mrs. Brooks was preceded in death by her husband, James Pelham Langley; her parents, William Luther and Maggie Pearl Scott Kennamer; three sisters and four brothers.

GRIMES

CENTRE — What this world lost, heaven gained. Calvin E. Grimes, age 67, of Centre, passed away from this life on Monday, November 19, 2007. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. today at Perry Funeral Home Chapel with Travis Conner and Steve Hall officiating. Burial will follow in Cherokee Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Survivors includ his loving wife, Charlotte Nixon Grimes; daughters, Michele (Marty) Wilson, Centre, Tanya (Keith) Clevenger, Birmingham; grandchildren, Candace, Shea, Seth and Tyler; brothers, J.R. (Audrey) Grimes, Centre, Curtis (Virginia) Grimes, Centre, James (Charlotte) Grimes, Centre; sisters, Otilla Wohl, San Marino, Calif., Ophelia Campbell, Rossville, Ga., Lora (Mike) Mitchell, Trion; several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Grimes was a native of Cherokee County, the son of the late, Chester and Mabel Harper Grimes. He was retired from United States Post Office in Centre, after 33 years of service. He was currently employed by Cherokee Farmers Coop. He was a member of Highway 9 Church of Christ, Piedmont; a graduate of Cherokee County High School; Past President of Cherokee County Cattleman's Association; Life Time Board Member of the State Cattleman's Association; Co-Director of Skyline Christian Youth Camp, for over 30 years; song director in the Church of Christ for over 50 years.

Pallbearers include, Wayne Saint, Jackie Black, Ricky Littlejohn, Carley Baswell, Eddie Keen, David Rogers, Stan Rogers and Dewayne Goss. Honorary pallbearers: Members of Highway 9 Church of Christ, Larry Leslie and employees of Cherokee Farmers Coop., Cattleman's Association, employees of Centre Post Office, Keith and Stacy Wood, Thomas Webb, Skyline Christian Youth Camp Counselors and Campers past and present, all young men who have been taught by Calvin to lead praises of God.

KIRKPATRICK

WEAVER — Mrs. Audrey Grimes Kirkpatrick, age 72, of Weaver, died Monday evening at Anniston Regional Medical Center. Mrs. Kirkpatrick was born on July 6, 1935 the daughter of the late Hugh David and Ruby Lee Buttram Grimes. She was a member of the Weaver Church of Christ and was preceded in death by her sisters Avis Coppock and Alice Minton along with a brother, Elbert Grimes. Prior to her retirement, Mrs. Kirkpatrick was employed with Jack's 5 & 10 Cents Stores in both Jacksonville and Piedmont. She was very active in the Garden Clubs where she had won many blue ribbons and was a member and past president of the American Federation of Garden Clubs and the "Grow'em and Show'em" Garden Club. She was known for her love of flowers and gardening. She was married on January 13, 1956 to Hugh Scott Kirkpatrick who survives.

Survivors include her husband, Mr. Hugh Scott Kirkpatrick; one son, Danny Scott Kirkpatrick, of Birmingham; one daughter, Mrs. Regina K. Jones, of Dearmaville; three sisters, Arlis Parris, Annie Maude, and Bobby Amberson; one brother, Winford Grimes; four grandchildren, Tyler Jones, Brian and Bradley Kirkpatrick and Julie Kirkpatrick.

Funeral services for Mrs. Kirkpatrick will be conducted today, November 21, 2007 at 2 p.m. from the graveside of the Piedmont Memory Gardens with the Rev. Gary Batson officiating. The family will receive friends this afternoon from 12 p.m. until the service hour at the funeral home. (The funeral procession will depart the funeral home today at 1:40 p.m. for the graveside services.)

Grandsons and nephews will serve as pallbearers.

STEPHENS

ANNISTON — Mr. Julian Stephens Jr., 79, of Anniston died Tuesday in Birmingham. The family will receive friends on Friday at 10 a.m. and services will follow at 11 a.m. at Parker Memorial Baptist Church. A private burial will be at Highland Cemetery.

Mr. Stephens is survived by his wife, Helen Crowder Stephens; his sons, Julian Stephens III and Herbert Scott Stephens, their wives and grandchildren, Miller Wesley Stephens and Nockoles Shed Stephens, all of Anniston.

A native of Anniston, Mr. Stephens graduated from Anniston High School in 1946. He graduated from Jacksonville State University and received his M.S. degree from the University of Alabama. He served in the U.S. Army and was the director of the U.S. Army Band in Fort Lee, VA. Mr. Stephens went on to serve as Band Director at Valley High School, Heflin High School, Wellborn High School and Anniston High School. He later served as Assistant Band Director at Auburn University. He opened Gadsden Music Company in 1969 and retired in 1985. Mr. Stephens was a member of the Anniston Jaycees, the Alabama Jaycees and the U.S. Jaycees. He was also a member of the Chamber of Commerce, Alabama Band Masters Association, President of American School Band Directors, Auburn Knights Alumni Association, Alabama Cavaliers Alumni Association, Phi Beta Nu national band director's fraternity, YMCA, Anniston Quarterback Club and Parker Memorial Baptist Church.

Memorial gifts may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation Association or Parker Memorial Baptist Church.
