Vacation donations

When you go on vacation, make a donation to NIE!

Donate your newspapers to local schools and put them to good use. Teachers can use them in the classroom while you are away. Newspapers are the most up-to-date textbook available. Do our local schools a favor — take a great vacation and participate in The Anniston Star's Vacation Donation Program.

All you have to do is call The Anniston Star Customer Service Department at 256-235-9253 or 1-866-814-9253 to make a donation.

Recycling programs

Newspapers in Education program is starting a cell phone, laser/toner cartridge, and inkjet cartridge recycling program. This program is free and convenient and will generate cash to promote literacy through the Newspapers In Education program. It's an alternative to the traditional fundraisers because there is no buying or selling — only collecting what would normally be thrown away.

How the program works: a collection container, clearly marked and accessible during normal operating hours, will be placed in the Circulation Department. You can drop off your recyclables whenever it is convenient for you or we can come by on the first of every month and pick up your donation. Periodically, we will mail the empty cartridges and cell phones collected to Global Re-Source Funding. They will then send a monthly check to NIE.

Did you know that every second nine cartridges are thrown away? Help us turn this waste into CASH!! Please donate your cell phones and cartridges for NIE to the bin in the Anniston Star Circulation Department. If you have any questions contact Kim Kirk at ext. 254.
