A two-vehicle wreck, which ended with one flipped vehicle and no injuries, closed the southbound lanes of Quintard Avenue at 12th Street Wednesday for about an hour.

Anniston police and firefighters responded to the wreck around 3:45 p.m. after a 20-year-old woman in a 2014 blue Nissan Rogue was southbound when she ran the red light, Anniston police Sgt. Brian Brockman said by phone.

“She told officers that she looked down, looked back up and the light was red,” Brockman said.

Upon entering the intersection, the Nissan struck a 2007 red Dodge Caliber eastbound on 12th Street driven by a 29-year-old woman, Brockman said.

“She likely swerved to avoid the wreck, struck the Dodge and flipped,” Brockman said.

Both women walked away from the wreck, the sergeant said.

After the wreck, the Dodge was parked facing east on 12th Street, its front bumper completely ripped from the vehicle. The Nissan scraped along the pavement as a tow truck operator righted the overturned vehicle in Quintard’s southbound lanes. What was once a slightly convex roof on the Nissan was flattened and the hood was pushed in toward the engine.
