All six Jacksonville City Council runoff candidates are set to attend a public forum Wednesday.

The public is invited to attend the forum starting at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the Jacksonville Community Center to listen and ask questions. The forum has been organized by members of two groups on the social media site Facebook — the Jacksonville Community Group and the Jacksonville City Schools Parents group.

“It is a good service to provide for the community,” said Gail DaParma, spokeswoman for the Jacksonville Community Group and one of the main forum organizers. “If one person feels like they can make a better informed decision after this, we’ll consider it a success.”

DaParma said all the candidates in the runoff are set to participate in the forum, including Jimmy Harrell and Kenny Burell for Place 2, Tony Taylor and Jason Sumner for Place 3 and Coty Galloway and Pam Shelton for the Place 5 seat.

The runoff election will be held Oct. 4.

DaParma said the forum will be an hour and a half long. During the first 48 minutes, candidates will be asked questions pulled from a hat. Each candidate will get three minutes to answer each question.

“Candidates won’t have seen the questions beforehand,” DaParma said.

After that, members of the audience will have 30 minutes to pose any questions they want to the candidates. The candidates will then get to make closing statements.

“We’re trying to keep this one a little more real since we have a smaller group of people to work with,” DaParma said of the forum. “We’re trying to provide an opportunity where candidates can think on their feet and let voters know who they are.”
