A Wellington woman was in the Calhoun County Jail Thursday facing murder charges in the Wednesday stabbing death of her boyfriend.

Lori Williamson, 41, was arrested by Calhoun County sheriff deputies Wednesday night, said Sheriff Larry Amerson by phone Thursday.

John Fitzgerald Hicks, 50, was pronounced dead at 10:35 p.m. Wednesday at his residence on the 1900 block of Webster Road in Wellington, said Calhoun County Coroner Pat Brown.

Hicks lived with Williamson at the home, according to Amerson.

Deputies arrived at the home Wednesday evening and found a man lying in the yard bleeding as well as signs of a struggle inside the home. Williamson at first said she did not know what happened to Hicks, but later told investigators she and her boyfriend had been arguing and that she was responsible for his death, Amerson said.

“In the course of that argument, she said he had bitten her, but at some point she had the knife, and she stabbed him one time in the chest,” Amerson said.

Hick’s body will be taken to the state forensics lab in Huntsville for an autopsy, Brown said.

Amerson said he expected a judge to set Williamson’s bond later Thursday.
