A Subway Restaurant franchise is proposed to open in Heflin again, this time in the former Liquor King building next to the Shell service station on Almon Street.

Heflin-based Jeff Moore Construction has been renovating the store, which according to design plans submitted to the city, will seat about 30 when it opens. The franchise owners, listed on a building permit purchased on Aug. 13, are Myra Davenport and Keith Comer. In 2013, Comer purchased a building permit for a Subway planned between the U.S. Post Office and Hardee's. Those plans fell through.

Jeff Moore said his company started construction at the store but is currently waiting for the ordered equipment and materials to arrive. Moore said the renovations should be finished around Jan. 1, maybe sooner.

A spokesman for Subway Restaurants couldn’t provide a proposed opening date.
