An Anniston man was struck and killed by a car while crossing Quintard Avenue on Wednesday, police say.

Travis Lamar Turner, 50, was crossing Quintard Avenue between G and H streets at 8:37 p.m. when he was struck by a 2001 BMW driven by a 53-year-old Weaver woman in the northbound lane. Turner was airlifted to UAB Hospital in Birmingham and was pronounced dead at the hospital, an official of the Calhoun County coroner’s office said.

According to Anniston police Sgt. Michael Webb, Turner was jaywalking when he crossed the street from west to east.

“There was no crosswalk or pedestrian controls where he was crossing,” Webb said.

Webb said no charges will be filed and that alcohol, distracted driving or excessive speed were not factors in the wreck.
