An Anniston homeowner suffered injuries as the result of a house fire Friday, but the extent of those injuries was not clear Friday evening.

Anniston fire Chief Tony Taylor said firefighters at 2:18 p.m. Friday responded to a fire at a home on the corner of Walnut Avenue and 18th street.

Several fire trucks were still at the home at 5 p.m. Firefighters on a ladder truck pumped water into a large hole in the roof of the brick home.

Several people standing on a nearby sidewalk said they knew a woman lived there, but did not know her name.

Taylor said the homeowner was injured, but he had no other details as to her condition. Crews were expected to remain at the home until Friday evening, Taylor said, adding that he would have no other information on the fire until they returned.

@darkangel41161 Attitudes like yours are a contributing factor to what is killing the city of Anniston. I am saddened by this event and the fact that a family lost a loved one. It is my understanding that firemen DID in fact go in when the son told them that someone was inside. It was a courageous act for the son to go in and pull his mother from the house. By doing that he did risk his life to save his mother. But when firemen do the same thing to try to save a stranger, day in and day out without hesitation and there is still judgment passed and negative criticism passed, that is unfair. I can understand your bitterness for the loss of a life but your under appreciation for civil service disgust me. I'm sure that you are an upstanding member of the community and contributor to society but I find it hard agree with any statement you have made thus far! I'm sure that police, fire, and EMS alike, leave work everyday wondering if there was more they could have done on a call, could they have made a greater impact on the people they serve. I'm sure those battles are constantly in their head and in there hearts, yet everyday that the sun rises they lace up their boots, pin on their badge and go to work just the same only to face negatively and judgment from people such as you! I'm sure you sleep well every night and aren't the least bit affected by any of this and that is a great indicator of you lack of character and compassion for those around you and the men and women who serve to protect them. So keep judging and passing blame and let me know how far that gets you in life! My thoughts and prayers are with the family for their loss but I can not stand by and let someone bash the brave acts of police, fire, EMS, and anyone else who serves to protect complete strangers as if they were their own family. It takes a special person to do these jobs and they do not deserve to continuously face pay/personnel cuts from the city AND unnapprecative citizens with such a poor attitude as yours. I hope you find whatever it is that has you so upset with life and correct it.

It is very easy to pass blame on others without seeing everything, being a witness that was there, I can personally say that, not only was there two firefighters in the same room with the elderly lady helping the gentlemen that went inside after their family member, but I also believe it was firefighter that road to the hospital on the ambulance and kept the poor lady alive. Now I'm not as educated as you two people obviously but after a little googling, it is very rare for firefighters to go into a fully involved house fire without a hose line in place to protect them to recover a person that is probably not alive but they did.....

Please pray for the family tonight of the victim

I would like to recognize the young man with his backpack still on trying to kick the door in to get to this lady before firefighters ever got there. Thanks for helping. And yes that is sad that a stranger tried to help and then her own so had to go in and get her. Firefighters were like inslow motion.
