Calhoun County Circuit Judge Joel Laird will reschedule the trial date for the combined PCB lawsuits against Monsanto Co., originally scheduled for Oct. 2.
A new trial date will be determined Monday, during a 3 p.m. pre-trial hearing at the county courthouse.
"I'm going to try to reset it as soon as possible, no later than January," Laird said.
Both the plaintiffs and the defendant have had difficulty completing the legal discovery process because of travel problems caused by the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, Laird said.
"Both sides were in a bind. Everybody wanted it continued."
In the PCB cases, filed in 1996, approximately 3,500 plaintiffs accuse Monsanto of polluting their blood and their properties with PCBs, a group of chemicals believed to cause cancer and other health effects.
