It's always later than you think, especially when school events are involved. Of course the key event is the start of the year, which for most local schools is on or about Aug. 7. But the folks at Interfaith Ministries and Community Enabler have no time for older folks' nostalgic grumblings about when the year 'ought' to start.
It's difficult for Ann Couch to find many 'before' pictures of herself. She was usually the one taking the pictures, comfortable to hide behind the camera, embarrassed by the fact that she was more than 100 pounds overweight. When an old picture is finally dug out of a filing cabinet, it's a group shot from 2003 when Couch helped file insurance claims at the Freeman and Company Bariatric Center.
For Jessica Huey, the circumstances preceding the episodes she calls her 'nervous breakdowns' were always the same: She was exhausted, it was 1 a.m. and she still faced a mountain of homework due when school started at 7:20 the next morning.
