Nappy Model: Moving on to greener pastures
Posted: September 21, 2013

You’re 40-something and suddenly realize that you possibly have more years behind you than years ahead. You’ve tolerated a “humdrum” career because the pay was good with matching benefits, but the thought of remaining in it until retirement somewhat sickens you. You’ve reached the glass ceiling. The job is unfulfilling and you’ve begun to eye the grass on the other side of the fence.

Southern girls doll up for college game day
Updated: June 15, 2014 - 8:14 pm

As the 2013 college football season gets underway, college students across the state are gearing up, and dressing up, for game day. Players’ minds may be occupied with touchdowns, tackles and testosterone, but for the devoted following of fans known as the rest of the student body, there is a time-honored tradition to tend to before heading to the stadium ... because on game day in the South, you don't just get a football game, but a fashion show as well. Nappy Model: Death of a solemate
Posted: July 21, 2013

I’ve lost three of them. Yes, three pair in the last week. It reminds me of the old superstition “death comes in threes.” One lost a tap on the left heel and was replaced by a plastic shoulder washer super-glued to the exposed screw, just to get me through the day. Another lost the outer layer of the right heel due to driving abuse — my daughter warns me against driving in my shoes. The whole right heel broke off the last pair. Thankfully it happened before I came to work.

Posted: June 15, 2013

Seriously, on the wrong morning, hunting for those fabulous earrings that you just know you have somewhere and are perfect for this outfit can put you in a state of four-alarm frustration before you’ve even had your first jolt of caffeine.
