Interfaith Thanksgiving service is a feast for the senses and the soul

Every year, on the Sunday before Thanksgiving, Interfaith Ministries of Calhoun County brings together people of different faiths and denominations for a community worship service. This year’s service will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday at Grace Episcopal Church, 1000 Leighton Ave., Anniston, 256-236-4457. A reception will follow.

On a recent Sunday morning, Derek Staples, pastor of First Baptist Church of Jacksonville, spoke about heaven and quoted Paul from the front of a sanctuary flanked by stained glass in blues, purples and greens. The congregation, filling three sections of pews, remained mostly quiet, offering only a sporadic “Amen” in response to the message, as words appeared on a large screen above the stage.
