Daniel Dempsey presents piano and clarinet music

Daniel Dempsey was presented in a solo recital of piano and clarinet music at 7 p.m. May 23 at the First United Methodist Church sanctuary.

His program included works for piano by J.S. Bach, Ludwig van Beethoven, Frederic Chopin, George Gershwin, Eric Satie and Claude Debussy. He also performed the Mozart Clarinet Concerto (1st Mvt.) accompanied by his piano instructor, Dr. Susie F. Dempsey, with whom he has studied piano for nine years.

He studies clarinet with Jacksonville State University professor, Mark Brandon.

In addition to his concentration on music and all the events related to band such as All District and All State and the piano auditions sponsored by AMTA, Dempsey enjoys a variety of other activities including Boy Scouts and being involved with Science Olympiad.

A senior, Dempsey was tapped for the National Honor Society at JHS where he is active in the JHS band program (marching, concert and jazz), the Youth Leadership Calhoun County and the track team.

He is a member of the First United Methodist Church where he sings in the Chancel Choir and participates in the Fay Ann handbell choir.

His parents are the Drs. David and Heidi Dempsey of Jacksonville.
