Ava Smith, a 10-year-old student at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic School and a member of Friendship Missionary Baptist Church, visited the White House, along with her family, during the summer.
Smith, with the help of her grandmother, wrote a letter to the president stating how much she enjoyed singing and how she wanted to sing for him and the First Lady. She received a letter from President Obama encouraging her to put her best effort into everything she does and complimented her for wanting to sing at the White House. While she didn’t get to sing for the president, her second tour was extra special to her since it was the president’s birthday. She, along with other tourists, sang happy birthday at a piano in the White House. The group also sang “God Bless America.” The Secret Service was impressed with Smith’s singing and assured her they would let the president know about her singing the birthday song for him. She is the daughter of Richard Williams and Tiannia Smith Williams of Anniston.
