From 'bad boys' to 'bad dads'

04-28-2008

Having tracked down America's most-wanted criminals for years, Fox may be looking to turn its attentions to deadbeat dads.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Fox has ordered a pilot for Bad Dads — formerly Deadbeat Dads — an unscripted series from 3Ball Prods.

Bad Dads focuses on Jim Durham, whose National Child Support Center works on behalf of struggling mothers to secure delinquent child support payments from, as you might guess, deadbeat dads. The trade paper notes that Durham's fee is 34 percent of all collected monies.

If Bad Dads goes to series, it would seem to be a logical match with Fox's Saturday crime dramas Cops and America's Most Wanted, though the show's producer sees some differences.

"I've seen Cops, and I want to watch more than a crack addict with his pants around his ankles running away from a police car," executive producer J. D. Roth tells Hollywood Reporter. "These guys owe money, and they should pay."

How pretty people raise a family: Jennifer Lopez, husband Marc Anthony and their new-born twins will be the subject of a TLC unscripted series produced by another Hollywood couple, Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos. The documentary series will focus on Lopez's challenges in balancing her role as actress, singer, wife, mother and entrepreneur behind an upcoming fragrance line.
