Members wanted for Calhoun County Civic Chorale

08-28-2008

The Calhoun County Civic Chorale is looking for new members to perform part one of George Frideric Handel's "Messiah" this November. The Chorale is joining forces with Jacksonville State University's A Cappella Choir for this popular work, which features the famous "Hallelujah" chorus.

"We want as many people from the community to join us as possible," said Dr. Patricia Corbin, director of the civic chorale and JSU director of chorale activities. "All singers are welcome."

The Chorale is comprised of members of the community, JSU students and faculty members and retired faculty. Chorale members are singers who have voices that can blend well with others, are able to learn their individual vocal part from written music and enjoy singing classical choral masterworks.

The first rehearsal is scheduled for Sept. 8 at 7:15 p.m. in the Performance Center of Mason Hall on the JSU campus. Rehearsals will continue on Monday evenings until the concert on Nov. 16 at the Church of St. Michael and All Angels.

"The first rehearsal is the new member open house," Corbin said. "People can come and sit in, meet the members. It's a good opportunity for people to see if this is something they want to do. If anyone is even remotely interested, they should come up to the campus for this."

There is a $33 cost for participation in the Chorale, which includes dues and the cost of music. JSU students can get college credit by registering for Chorus MU 196 or MU 396.
