04-10-2008

Drugs, rock 'n' roll, and fighting against The Man. According to Hollywood, that's what the Vietnam War was all about. And a generation of children who watched those movies grew up to become soldiers in the Gulf War. The effects of this Hollywood Vietnam the soldiers is apparent in Anthony Swofford's memoir Jarhead.

On April 16, Dr. Andrea Porter, assistant professor of English at Jacksonville State University, will present "Jarhead and the Failure of the Vietnam Myth." She will supplement her reading with clips from the movie Jarhead and other Vietnam War films.

The presentation will begin at 3:30 p.m. in Stone Center 233 and is free and open to the public. For more information contact Teresa Reed at 782-5456 or treed@jsu.edu.
