The Under 18 Coosa Storm soccer recently won the Division II State Soccer Championship in Decatur. The team won 1-0 against Mobile Soccer Club. Team members include Lee Burley, Christian Pantoja, Coach Brian Rohrer, Jean Martinez, Tony Rivas, John Nilsen, Coach Darren Spruill, Lucas Saltz, Brad Heath, Clint Patterson, Francisco Rivas, Kyle Acker, Fabian Flores, Francisco Echeverria, Andrew Newsome and Daniel Graham.

Chris Carter of Jacksonville World Yoshukai Karate recently competed and placed first in open-hand forms, weapons forms and point sparring. He is a third kyu green belt and studied Yoshukai Karate for several years under Sensei Chuck Torruella.

Six-year-old Ethan Harvey recently caught a bass while fishing at a private lake. He is the son of Jarrod and Ginger Harvey and grandson of Bob and Debbie Harvey and Eli and Carolyn Henderson.

The Sand Rock Blue Crush Under 12 girls soccer team recently won the state championship in Huntsville. The girls defeated Athens 5-0 and Huntsville 5-0. In the finals, the team won 2-0. This title was the fifth consecutive state championship for Sand Rock Soccer, which includes three boys and two girls.

Team members include Morgan Bone, Mary Francis Brown, Lexy Carter, Sabryn Chandler, Skylar Essary, Katelyn Hanson, Samantha Hester, Abby Jimmerson, Maggie Lyn Lumsden, Ashlie McBrayer, Ashley Norris, Jordan Norris, Madalyn Oliver, Taylor Pettitt and Courtney Rowe. Head coach is Eddy Norris. Assistant coaches are Greg Oliver and Scott Norris.
