The Mason Nunez Memorial Fund has been set up at BB&T bank at 11th Street and Quintard Avenue. Mason recently passed away in June. He started his adventure at Saks Youth Ball Field in a stroller. The memorial fund is to help make improvements at the Saks Youth Ball Field with a playground, better dug-outs, and a monument to celebrate the life of Mason and those he touched. Contributions may be made at the bank or by calling 237-5844.
Jacksonville State University baseball summer showcase camps are to be held from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. today. Final registration is at 8 a.m. today. The camp is open to high school athletes in the graduating classes of 2008-2011. Along with a showcase portion of the camp, instruction on all phases of the game will be included with this camp. The JSU coaching staff, college coaches and professional scouts will also be working and evaluating at the camp. The Cost is $99. If a camper attends the "Summer Showcase Camp," he will receive a $20 discount for the upcoming JSU fall league that starts at the beginning of September. Heflin Baptist Church Upward flag football and cheerleading for children in grades K5 through grade 6 is to hold practices for one hour on Tuesdays or Thursdays with games to be played at 8 and 9:15 a.m. on Saturdays on Almon Street in front of the Kellwood Outlet. The awards night celebration is to be Oct. 4 with illusionist Jerome Rewis of Dalton, Ga., as the special guest.
