The Boys and Girls Club of East Central Alabama summer programs are to be May 27-Aug. 1. The Boys and Girls Clubs offer educational and fun field trips and sporting activities. The ages are six-18 with a cost of $25 weekly. Registration is to begin Monday. Call 236-7050 for more information.

The Anniston Parks and Recreation T-ball and baseball teams recently had a visit from the Jacksonville State University baseball players. The JSU players that attended were Todd Cunningham, Matt McLaughlin, Steven Leach, Bert Smith, Danny Andres, Malcolm Thomas and Jay Harrington, along with coach Travis Janssen.

The college players were in full uniform and gave motivational speeches to each of the teams. They handed out posters and autographed them along with gloves, hats and shirts. Some of the players stayed behind and performed drills that the coaches had planned.

"The kids really seemed to enjoy watching the collegiate players join in and give pointers to them," said Darren Spruill, the new PARD athletic director for the city of Anniston.
