Weaver Elementary students wait to get aboard the helicopter. Photos: Special to The Star

Students in the gifted classes of Weaver, Alexandria, Pleasant Valley and White Plains elementary schools have been studying the history of flight in their classes during this school year.

Recently Jacob Davis, a Weaver fourth-grade student, arranged for a helicopter from Wallace State to land on the school premises. Dustin Gaston and Mr. Jones of Wallace State spoke to the students about all aspects of flying, careers and the education needed to become a pilot. Students enjoyed the actual landing and take-off, and being allowed to get in the helicopter and manipulate the controls.
