There are numerous adult tennis teams competing in USTA tennis programs in Calhoun County. One of them is now the 2008 Tri-level State Tennis Champion.

They call themselves “the JSU-ers” because they are former JSU football, baseball and basketball athletes. Some are faculty. Others are employees, JSU graduates or supporters.

They all want to stay physically fit so they are pursuing an active lifestyle by participating in competitive tennis.

The JSU-ers won their local USTA tennis league, which advanced them to the State Tri-level Championship in Gulf Shores. Then, they cruised through the competition, defeating teams from Auburn, Huntsville, Birmingham and Montgomery to take the title.

Team members include: Butch Barker, Kory Hill, Neal Barker, Jim Browning, Bill Reid, Tim Mactaggart and Red Wilder.
