The McCoy Methodist Church has a history that is outstanding in the City of Anniston. The church was organized in 1888 and was at the intersection of 15th Street and Cobb Avenue and was known as the East Anniston Methodist Church.
In 1915, the church moved to the corner of 19th Street and Moore Avenue, and the name was changed to McCoy Memorial Methodist Church in memory of the late Bishop McCoy, a product of North Alabama Methodism.
Over the years the church had been added to and remodeled due to large attendance and growth.
In 1977, the decision was made to build on the property where the church is presently located at 2600 Brighton Ave. The first service was on July 9, 1978. Many pastors came from the membership of McCoy over the years including Dr. L.D. Tyson, David Hutton, Dwight Pearson, Oscar Lane, Mack McElheney, Joe Raines, David B. Sargent, L. A. Dishman, Ralph Howe, Jimmy O'Quinn and Pete Hawker.
We are pleased to announce that the Rev. Pete Hawker of North Wood Methodist Church in Florence will deliver our Homecoming Sermon and former member Tammy Underwood Bridges and her daughter Bethany Bridges will provide special music for the service. Pastor Mary Quillin and the congregation of McCoy invite all of our members and former members to join us on this very special occasion in celebrating our 120 years.
Homecoming Services are to be at 10:30 a.m. Sept. 21 (no Sunday School) followed by a covered dish luncheon. Several former pastors have been invited to attend.
