Honda employees recently held a roadblock to raise funds for Steel Magnolias Breast Cancer Support Group Inc. of Anniston. They raised more than $1,100 during the event. July was Honda Volunteer Month. For every associate who volunteers five hours, the nonprofit will get $100 donated to that organization. NHC Place recently held a writing contest. A total of six residents entered the contest. Dean Smith, left, with her husband Herman C. Smith, won first place. Frances Frey won second place. Evelyn Wesley won third place. Honorable mention went to Sally Martin, Margie Jackson and Grace Stricklin. Smith's winning story was about her husband's life and his many adventures.

First cousins from the north and south recently spent time with grandparents Wayne and Dianne Griffith of Anniston and enjoyed the surrounding area activities. The grandchildren playing in Coldwater Creek included far left, Mathew, age 6, and far right, Natalie age 8, both from Noblesville, Ind.; middle left, Chael, age 8 and middle right, Alex, age 10, both from Fort Myers, Fla. They also enjoyed visits to Oxford Lake, Party Central, going to the movies and McDonald's.

Lil George, front left, celebrated his 48th birthday on July 28 with a party at Weaver City Park. The Mount Cheaha Bikers' family and friends were included for the 14th year in making Lil George's birthday an exciting time. Lil George, celebrated his birthday with entertainment from Bryan Mulligan as "Elvis" at his party.
For more than 50 years, the children and grandchildren of Tom and Emily Sims have claimed the first Sunday in August for their family reunion.
Inez Burchett of Oxford, the oldest of the grandchildren, was present and proudly proclaiming her age of 94. Families of all ages were present also. Seven out of 10 children of Tom and Emily Sims were represented.
