Autumn Cove Retirement Community recently announced that Regina Parrish, left, and Diane Haynes have been selected co-employees of the year. Parrish and Haynes were cited for their countless acts of kindness and the outstanding quality of their work in providing care and service to the residents of Autumn Cove Retirement Community in Golden Springs.

On June 1, the Duke University Talent Identification Program held a ceremony at the University of Alabama to recognize those seventh-graders who had achieved a score of 21 or greater on the ACT in the areas of English, math, reading and/or science. Diego Cardenas and Lauren Rothwell, both students at Sacred Heart Catholic School, were among the honorees. They are pictured with Dr. James Siders, UAB department head of special education and multi-abilities.

Carrie Nunnally's baton twirlers' recital was held May 31 at Ohatchee Elementary School. Performing students included, front row, Brittany Putman, Erin Barker, Addie Jennings, Becca Harrell; back row, Lauren Henderson, Brianna Ramsey, Brianna Putman, Kaley Slick, Chelsea Ward, Carly Young and Karly Slick holding the Christian flag. The recital also included a praise and dance worship by Pure Heart and Katie Acker from Covenant Life Ministries.

Paige Norby, a junior at Auburn University, has recently been named to the dean's list by the College of Sciences and Mathematics for the spring 2008 semester. The award is given to students who have demonstrated superior academic achievement by attaining a 4.0 grade point average. Norby, a 2006 graduate of Oxford High School, is majoring in biomedical sciences. She is the daughter of Don and Nancy Norby of Oxford.
Morgan Whetstone, daughter of Chris Whetstone and Sonde Coleman, recently received one of four 2008 compass Bancshares — DeWayne C. Cuthbertson Memorial Scholarship Awards. Sonde Coleman is employed by Compass in Oxford.
Whetstone will be a freshman studying psychology at Jacksonville State University in the fall. She is ranked fourth in her graduating class, a Calhoun County Board of Education Outstanding Senior of the Year and an Advanced Academic with Honors Diploma recipient. She is a graduate of Saks High School.
The National Society of High School Scholars recently announced that Munford High School student Matthew Pruitt of Eastaboga has been selected for membership. The Society recognizes top scholars and invites only those students who have achieved superior academic excellence.
Membership in NSHSS entitles qualified students to enjoy a wide variety of benefits, including scholarship opportunities, academic competitions, free events, member-only resources, publications, participation in programs offered by educational partners, online forums, personalized recognition items, and publicity honors.
Kendon Lane recently graduated with honors from Lincoln High School. He was a member of the Beta Club, Future Business Leaders of American and Skills USA Club. He was on the National Honor Roll, graduated Magna Cum Laude and with an advance diploma. He is a member of Power of Praise Church of Jacksonville where he plays the drums and organ.
He plans to attend Alabama A&M University with a full academic scholarship and major in electrical engineering. He is the son of Clyde and Chan Lane of Talladega and grandson of Sherman and Barbara Lane and Henry and Frances Ward.
Calhoun County students chosen as counselors in Camp War Eagle program out of more than 250 applicants.
Camp War Eagle is Auburn's summer orientation program for incoming freshmen. The program exists primarily to better orient Auburn's new students through a structured program emphasizing academic and personal success. Students meet faculty, talk with academic advisors and register for fall semester classes. An estimated 4,000 incoming freshmen participate in one of eight three-day, two-night Camp War Eagle sessions. A separate program for parents is held simultaneously at each session to better acquaint them with university services and resources. Approximately 550 parents attend each session of Camp War Eagle.
Brody Craven was head student counselor, Freddie Guzman and Erin Hutchins were student counselors, and Daniel McCarty was a parent counselor.
