Amanda Sansom recently attended the annual American Association of Christian Schools Youth Legislative Training conference held in Washington, D.C., on a scholarship.

Sansom is a senior at Trinity Christian Academy and is the daughter of Charles and Grace Sansom of Oxford.

Kayla Sherman recently attended the Alabama Youth Leadership programs 2007 student leadership conference held on the campus of Auburn University Montgomery.

Sherman represented Oxford High School and was chosen to participate in the conference based on leadership potential.

She is the daughter of Julie and Steven Sherman and granddaughter of Ed and Dolly Lovelady.

Zachary Amason recently participated in the Alabama 4-H Competitive Day activities at the University of Montevallo. He placed first in the state for Senior Level I in the Lawn Tractor competition. He has been an active member of 4-H for seven years. He is a junior at Faith Christian High School and is the son of Carlton and Lynn Amason.

Piedmont native Heather R. Fann, a cum laude graduate of the University of Alabama School of Law, has become an associate at the law firm at Boyd, Fernambucq, Vincent & Dunn, P.C., of Birmingham. Fann received awards from the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers and the Family Law Section of the Alabama State Bar during law school, and began her family law and divorce practice upon admission to the Alabama State Bar in 2006.

Sarah Callaway "Calley" Compton recently attended the Junior National Young Leaders conference in Washington, D.C. She was chose by Jacksonville Christian Academy where she attends middle school. She is the daughter of Neil and Kim Compton, granddaughter of Doug and Janice Rosser, Linda Compton and the late Derrick Compton.

Minister Peggy Allen Lewis has published her first book, I Felt Like an Eagle Trapped in a Chicken Coop. This book is based upon a true story of how Lewis felt trapped at the Birmingham Police Department as a psychiatric social worker. It then reveals how God strengthened her faith leading her out, allowing her to soar to new heights. Peggy Lewis is successful because of her close walk with God and her support cast which includes: Gladys Allen Carr (mother), attorney Scottie D. Allen (brother), Sharon Allen Mims (sister), Robbin Allen Speight (sister), Garry Allen (brother), Trena Allen Law (sister) and Barry Allen (brother).

Chris E. Hagler, a graduate of Ohatchee High School and former resident of Ohatchee, recently published his first book, The Rose and the Redwood.

The Rose and the Redwood follows the story of two children as they grow up in foster care. They are shuffled between families until they arrive at the home of Scott and Katherine Stone. After a rough process in which friendships are forged, the new family discovers a doorway to another world, and with it, an adventure of a lifetime. They enter a spectacular forest world populated by mystical creatures. They learn that the forest and all its creatures are under threat of destruction. The new family must learn about their new surroundings, even as they rely upon each other to survive.

Cadet Brett Mayfield of Warner Robins, Ga., was recently promoted to band co-sgt. for the 11th grade. He is a cadet at the Camden Military Academy in Camden, S.C. He is the son of Keith and Tiffany Crist, and grandson of Gary and Linda Mayfield of Anniston.
