Krystal M. Fomby-McDaniel recently received a bachelor of science degree in elementary education from Jacksonville State University. Anna Smith has been initiated into the Alpha Chapter of Phi Beta Kappa at the University of Georgia. As a graduating senior, she is majoring in sociology. Smith graduated from the Harpeth Hall School in Nashville in 2004. She is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. William L. Gunnells Jr. of Anniston. Birmingham-Southern College sophomore James William Randolph of Anniston recently received the Bert Meadow McTyeire scholarship during the college's 2008 Honors Day Convocation. He is a graduate of Jacksonville High School and is the son of Dr. Christopher and Mary Randolph. UDC chapter installs officers Oxford's Confederate Dames Chapter No. 1786 of the United Daughters of the Confederacy installed new officers for 2008-2010 at its May meeting. They are president/registrar, Linda Haynes, Golden Springs; vice president, Delilah Brannon, Childersburg; recording secretary, Annette Smith, Ranburne; treasurer, Frances Prater, Oxford; historian, Keitha Kirk, Weaver; recorder of military crosses, Dawn Stevens, Sycamore; chaplain, Leslie Griffin, Golden Springs and parliamentarian, Sandra Rains, Oxford. Jeannette Taylor, state historian and president of Ashville chapter No. 1488, conducted the installation ceremony. Special guest was Helen Johnson, director for the John. H. Forney District. Also at this meeting, Dr. Alice Clay was presented a certificate of membership on the service of her great-great-grandfather Joel Lockhart Clay who served with the 30th Alabama Regiment, Company B. Delilah Brannon was presented a supplemental certificate on the service of her great-great-grandfather, William George Bailey who served with the 3rd South Carolina Calvary, Company I. |
