PHILLIPS Springville - Johnny Dean Phillips, 64, passed away on January 1, 2017. Mr. Phillips was a member of the Cherokee Tribes of Northeast Alabama and he was proud of his Indian Heritage. He served in the Army National Guard Reserve during the Vietnam War and was on standby for Desert Storm. He loved fishing, hunting, Alabama football and reading. He also loved his family and spoiling his grandchildren. Preceding him in death were his father, John Edward Phillips. Survivors include his wife, of 40 years, Maxine Phillips, of Springville; son, Johnny Lane Phillips (Tina Colley); daughter, Jewel Delight Phillips Pate (Christopher Blake); grandchildren, Ayden Blake Pate and Evan James Pate; mother, Elvie Opal Phillips-Hartgrove; brother, Greg Dewayne Phillips; sisters, Terry Phillips Preston (Glenn), Donna Phillips Snow (Johnny), Debbie Phillips McCoy (Johnny). The family received friends January 6, 2017, at Lemley Funeral Home. Funeral service was held at New Lebanon Baptist Church with Bro. Jeff Everett officiating. Burial followed in the New Lebanon Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were Wesley Phillips, Joey Phillips, Chris Thomas, Danny Self, Ralph Johnson, Tommy Toles, Harlan Swindall, Josh Peoples and Rodney Gibbs.
