HOLMES Piedmont - William Lewis Holmes (Ret. Army), 86, passed away on Sunday, September 18, 2016, at Piedmont Health Care Center. Born in Spring Garden to Elbert Edmondson "Jack" and Lillie Mae Mallows Holmes, he proudly served in the U.S. Army, retiring after 22 years of service. He then retired as a Supervisor from the U.S. Postal System after 20 years of service. He enjoyed farming, fishing, woodworking and lapidary. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Bobbie Jean Gossett Holmes; and two sisters, Juanita Conaway and Helen Sealey. He is survived by his two sons, David Holmes and Rodney Holmes (Matha), both of Piedmont; sister, Ann Farmer, of Fairhope; and three grandchildren, Hillery Holmes, of Pleasant Gap, Whitney Holmes, of Tuscaloosa and Jarrod (Lauren) Holmes, of Huntsville. Mr. Holmes was expecting the arrival of his first great grandson in February. Funeral service will be held Wednesday, September 21, 2016, at 2 p.m. from Dansby Heritage Chapel with burial in Piedmont Memory Gardens. The Rev. William Cain and the Rev. Paul Gossett will officiate. Visitation will be Tuesday, September 20, from 6 - 8 p.m. at Dansby Heritage Chapel. Dansby Heritage Chapel is honored to serve the Holmes Family.
