The community is invited to begin the evening with a tour through the headquarters — accompanied by a glass of wine — from 6-6:45 p.m., then meet at Classic on Noble for a silent auction, dinner, awards and entertainment beginning at 7 p.m. Mayor Vaughn Stewart will be Master of Ceremonies.
Award presentations based on the Tony Awards have become a tradition with CAST. The annual event pays tribute to Randy Hall, the late Anniston playwright, Anniston Star journalist and founder of CAST.
The nominations will be read, the tension builds, then gleaming statuettes bearing the comedy and tragedy masks will be given to recipients. Film vignettes of the previous season’s productions, compiled by Glenn Davenport and Jacquie Tessen, will provide entertainment. There will also be performances by singers Steve Campbell, Lisa Wade and CAST Kidz.
However, everyone involved will take a bow that evening — both audiences and players are appreciated. In community theater, those on hand learn quickly to support the effort by moving heavy set pieces in quick scene changes, painting, selling ads, sewing, sawing wood and more.
Jean Ann Oglesby, who heads the awards committee, stresses that everyone — not only those involved with CAST — is cordially invited to come. Tickets are $25 each. For reservations, mail checks as soon as possible to CAST, Box 185, Anniston, AL 36202. For more information, call Oglesby at 256-237-8986.cost
