Updated 12:14 p.m.

ATHENS — The Tennessee Valley Authority has shut down a reactor at the Browns Ferry nuclear plant in north Alabama to repair a leak in a steam pipe.

TVA spokesman Jason Huffine says the Unit 3 reactor was taken off-line about 3 a.m. Friday to fix the leak. Huffine says the reactor had been in operation 54 days since being down for refueling.

TVA has not said how long the shut down will last.
