MOBILE — A huge project to build homes for low-income families is getting under way in Mobile. Habitat for Humanity in Mobile County holds a kickoff event on Monday for the Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter Work Project. The former president and his wife are helping the organization construct low-cost homes for the 25th straight year. The Carters will be in Mobile on Tuesday helping Africa Locke and her family work on a new home. In all, Habitat for Humanity plans to build 250 houses in Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana and Texas during the project. About 1,500 volunteers are expected to participate in the event. The Carters previously helped with a Habitat for Humanity project in Anniston. |
